Excellent! I'm starting to get excited for you! Nice attention to detail.

But, given that it's about to be the "dead" of winter, I do hope your garage is at least minimally heated. Otherwise, this fun time isn't so fun...

Thank you for your support!

My garage is fully heated, +20 degrees inside while -20 outside. Todays work was to lay out the wire harness, fit the center stand and swing arm. Someone forgot to connect the neutral switch before engine and frame so that was ar setback. Got it sorted without taking it apart.

That’s it for today

Good morning!

Got a couple of hours in the cave lst night. I believe I got most of the electrics in the right direction and installed new tapered steering bearings. Starting to look like something.

May I suggest???????????? You might want to put the valve covers on. It's possible working around the bike with all that stuff to drop something and it "could" go into the open part of the head in to the crankcase. ;)

I had to slow down on the rebuild pace due to intense work with my students grades. But, some small things have been done. I got the forks in place, lamp pot and some fiddling with the electrics. The stator cables are now soldered and static timing is set after installing new breakers. I hav a Dyna-S ignition that I will install after I have got it running on breakers. Just to be safe. Handelbars found their place on the triple clamp too. After two bleeding marks in my forehead and some cursing the bar ends got some cloth for protection :IDTS:

Thats it for now

Thank you Rudolph, I’ve seen your bike and is just what I am aiming for with my restoration.

Christma, new year and hoards of family attacking in waves as well as a really manly cold kept me away from the boys room during last couple of weeks. But a few hours today resulted in almost finished wireing and assemly of carbs. Battery connected for a compression test. Looks like piston rings are a bit tired after sitting ten years, but even measurments through the cylinders. Hope compression will rise after some exercise.

And then, what elese to do than make a test of the starter button

Once again I have the electrical gremlins defeated. How many times will be the last time?. Switch gear on both sides of handle bar was ”upgraded” to an 80`s cb model, I think. A lot of wires were cut and a big mess left over to me. The old switches came in abox but were damaged so I got a new pair fom America.

So what I have is:
A european, early 1975, called ”american”, sold in Sweden and thereby vaugely Europeanized with reserve lightning unit but no cluster bulbs for that. Then updated with 80`s controls and wires like a birds nest. And then a new pair of controls from a 1976-77 American gl1000.

A few hours studying and comparing wire diagrams over the different regions specs and a bypass of the RLU got me on track again. Everything electrical looks like it is working. I still have a couple of wires hanging loose. A green/yellow comming from the right hand control has nowhere to go but I believe that it has something with the brake light to to.

Does anyone know if the European 1975 model are supposed to have double filament indicators?

Green yellow would be the brake light. Don't know about the filaments.

A nice evening!

I got a few hours in the garage tonight. Fork seals out with a little help from a special tool a saw somewhere on the internet. Worked like a charm. New seals in and new oil too. Fork caps busted up but new are on their way.

Exhaust are now fitted after some wrestling and cutting. And then fitting the radiator with new hoses. I miss two hose clamps so I couldn’t finish the whole job. So, I charged on with rear brake and relized that it would be much easier to fit it before the exhaust. Then front brake with all its components. I had some old steel braided brake lines laying around that looks awful but works great. Rear fender, rear light and the rear rubber fender flap was the last thing to be done.

What to do when ignition wires are cut and poorly taped back with new wires? I say tape them back and do it one step better! Or, order a used set of MP08 coils and wires from a CBR900 on ebay?

Last option was my solution. But, when they arrive I believe I need some advice on installing them. I still believe that leaving the working point ignition as is until new coils are installed to rule out faults. And then, when she runs again I'll install the Dyna ignition.

New plug caps are prepared with the logo grinded off.

Yes indeed! Sad though that we have about 130cm of snow and much more coming until it turns into springrime here. New MOT-regulations this year says that a motorcycle older than 40 years MOT:d after May never have to get tested any more, for ever. So I have to wait anyway.

I still have much to do before that and enjoy my garage nights
