Some work on the central stand and rear breake hose while it's easy to access
And the engine back in place

Re: GL1000 75 from France
Some news, a lot happened during the re-start of the engine . . .
While filling the rad with coolant, I see coolant leaking by the upper side of the head gasket . . . I installed no-name gasket, with gasket sealant because it was not an enducted one like OEM's
I made it warm till fan get in action and the day after, the leaks were reduced
I also noticed explosions in the air box, so I checked the valves gap, not enought gap on adms
And I read the forum to see that I was out of range for the head bolts torque :
While riding, need for clutch lever tension adjustement (impossible to shift down), points adjustement, and for now, one cylinder is missing above 3000 rpm, I think I got to recheck the carbs . . . (and the valves gap, and the ign timing . . . )

Re: GL1000 75 from France
You work fast! Your bike must be a French spec GL1000. I'm curios about the handlebars. Can you measure the rise and width? I'm not a fan of the American style bars on an unfaired bike. My GL1100 will be naked. I have a set of 'Euro' style bars. The rise is about 60 MM and the width is about 812 mm. The stock USA GL1100 bars have about 200 mm rise.
Do you ride much on the highway? At 90-110 KPH the stock USA bars have you sitting way to straight up. It is very tiring to ride like this. How do you rate your bike's riding comfort?

Re: GL1000 75 from France
I worked fast because I found all the infos needed on this forum ! (and gained plenty of time with the engine stand, allowing me to turn the engine upside down several times very quickly during re-assembly and painting).
I had low handlebars (see the first picts of this post, when I purchased the bike), 60mm rise and 725mm width but found them not convenient for good steering at low speeds and changed for an aftermarket Tommaselli ref 0290 G16, 110mm rise and about 800mm width. Much better feeling with those bars !
I don't ride very fast, as a new fashion occurs here in France, concerning speed cams and all that sorts of things . . .
So I prefer secondary roads, with a lot of turns.
Concerning comfort, the next issue will be to buy decent shocks, with real hydraulics settings, roads are not very slick out there and ground clearance is therefore essential, with good shocks I think it will be better.

Re: GL1000 75 from France
Lauren, thank you for the information. Our freeway traffic can be fast. Traffic camers are starting to appear in our state. Mostly they are in school zones, but they are finding a strong political backlash. The Tommaselli bars look like they are high quality. I will keep them in mind. On the shocks, I have Hagons on my CB450. Although they are only adjustable for preload, they are amazing how much better ride they provide. Hagon really know their product.

Found the reason for the missing cylinder, the head of one slide jet needle unrivet . . .
Good to ride it anew with all cylinders

Nice work. Agree with the comments about the look. Very purposeful and no nonsense. Just in time for Spring!

Re: GL1000 75 from France
Dyna S ordered, I am now reading the forum to find if I should use a ballast with my coils.
I have 2.2ohms coils (from 1000 CBF 2006-2009), and I actually run them with a 1.5ohm ballast.
Dyna S says at least 3ohms. Any idea of the best ballast to order in that case ?

Re: GL1000 75 from France
Why not just buy Dyna coils too? That way you have a matched ignition. I don't get using the Dyna ignition but then using stock coils. Even newer coils. A lot of guys do that but I don't know why you wouldn't go with a proven combo.

Re: GL1000 75 from France
It sure make sense to put dyna coils but as I already have mounted recent coils, I was wondering if I could keep it anyway . . . (so it can let me some money available to buy me new shocks . . . )

Re: GL1000 75 from France
There are others who use 2.2 ohm coils. Your 1.5 ohm ballast is safe. Some who have used lower ohm coils have run into hot start button wiring issues while cranking. The stock wiring configuration bypasses the ballast for the coils giving them full volts to assist starting while cranking. You may need to change that to keep your Dyna safe.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Re: GL1000 75 from France
Thanks Eric for the info. More to ask when I'll receive my dyna S . . .
First long ride and first breakdown . . .
. . . out of gas
Waiting for the in flight refueling with my special paper funnel
I have a leakin float needle and I think it drained out a lot of gas . . .
Hope this ride helped to seat this needle (this was in fact one of the goals of this ride)
