Winnie's return

#1

Post by mattimeo »

So Saturday was a happy/sad day. I got to meet Winnie for the first time and Roady had to say good bye.

I promised to keep her name. She's a part of history here, so how could I do anything less.

I'm going to keep a new build thread going, so everyone can check in on the old girl.

Hopefully I'm as good to her as Steve was.

Glad to see the trip went well. I'll be watching your build thread as will several others.

I got a good feeling about it (except for Roady's transition). I like Matti's style. I wish him the best. It's not about the shoes. It's about the ride!

I'm excited to see how it goes for you, Matt.

It was great to meet you and I will be over here with a cold one ready to help if you need it.

Finally have some free time to work on the old girl. New battery and a quick brake flush.

Sadly starter needs new brushes.

Is there any reason I couldn't use the starter of my 78 ? They appear to be the same.

Boy, dunno about that one. Somebody smarter than me will need to chime in for you. There cannot be much, if any, difference. If it bolts up, my guess is you're good to go. Electrically, there's no difference.

I think the 1000 starters are a bit longer, but will work, IIRC. The length does make the install harder. I believe you may need to remove the rear most exhaust stud?

Well, another season is approaching. I wasn't able to get to her yet :(

But I am unwilling to let her sit anymore. So I broke down and took her to Suter's Speed Shop in Madison. Was hesitant until I saw a beautiful 82 with almost the same paint job sitting there for sale.

Here's to hoping they treat her good :)

You sold it to them?

Or you're hiring them to fix it?
