Hotrod touring

Quit clogging up the board! That was a tight fit on that tank. I looks pretty rough inside, maybe it will clean up. Maybe I could make a smaller, better fitting new tank, and relocate the electrics down there. :guitar why are my photos rotating? The beginning.

Pictures are rotating because you are using a d*%#n cell phone instead of a real camera. You can get around this by uploading your pictures to an online picture hosting site, rotate them correctly and then link to them in your post. It has to to with the metadata included in the picture when it was taken and there is no other way around it.

That is definitely NOT okay. (Picture is fine) But, if the rest of the tank looks like that, you should address it as one of your higher priorities. If you don't, you'll have a lot of headaches with regard to fuel delivery and carburetion.

Was that running the open filter? While these engines are pretty tolerant of exhaust changes, running without the air box can create all kinds of tuning nightmares. Some people say even the greater flow from a filter such as a K&N in the stock box plays havoc. Just saying...

I cut the filter housing up. If I have to I will put a wind deflector up front. Wow that's awful sensitive. Are there jets available?

Jets alone won't fix it. Easier to just use a stock air box and filter. While the carbs "can" be made to work with open filters it is very time consuming. CV carbs just don't like changes on the intake side.

I defer to Robins advice as he knows more than most of us. I went down that jetting game a few times and it's really time consuming and frustrating and ultimately expensive.

FWIW. A different tack should you choose to go with open filters is to change vacuum rates at which the slides and air-cut valve operate. Since you are freeing up a lot more air to enter it might work to decrease the size of the holes on the bottom of the slides. If you get the rate so they rise correctly, then the jets should still be right. I used JBWeld on one of the three holes and then drilled it to 3/32". Any larger and there are times that when you whack the throttle hard, the slides go up too suddenly and the motor falls on its face for a few seconds.

The same can be done to the air-cutoff valve if needed to make the mixture richer on deceleration.

Now that I've typed all that, what the veterans here suggest is not to mess with the intake side.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Ignorance is bliss. I didn't know they were cv carbs.. my neighbor put pods on a 79 dohc 750 and had problems. He taped over a third of the filters and it helped. Thanks for the info.

There are ready made kits to "modify" CV carbs for some bike. One of the mods is to "increase" the hole size a bit. Along with other things.
