Hopeful Goldwing Owner
Hello All!
New to the club and hope to be a lasting member if all goes well. I'm 24 and have little experience buying used vehicles so was just searching for general advice. Currently looking at a 77 GL1000 that looks to be in great condition. here's the Craigslist add for reference. https://slo.craigslist.org/mcy/6169342656.html
As far as I've read about goldwings the maintenance that is mentioned in the post seems to good. The seller said the previous owner did that maintenance about a year ago.
What things jump out to you guys as more experienced buyers and owners and what things would you recommend I inspect thoroughly when with the bike?
All advice is wanted and appreciated! Thanks a lot!
P.S. let me know if this post would have been more appropriate in another forum.

Re: Hopeful Goldwing Owner
Most of us gravitate towards new posts regardless of forum. This might have been more geared toward the Welcome/Intro forum, but you're good.
The list of "new" items, if true, indicates a well-sorted machine. I'd be especially attuned to verification, if possible, of timing belt replacement. A broken belt will spoil your fun pretty quickly - as well as essentially destroying the engine. I don't see any red flags, especially if the list of maintenance items is on the level.
Offer him a grand and see what happens!

Thanks a lot!
Are there any easy tricks to verifying the quality of timing belt replacement, more than starting the bike and it not ruining the engine?

Not really. Old ones can even look deceptively new'ish. The only sure ways are to either do it yourself or have complete assurance from the PO that it has been done.

Doesn't look like a bad deal even if he won't come down on the price. I'd be interested to know what a "New rack & pinion gear set for driveshaft/rear hub" is, though.

The guy must be pretty tall. That seat has a lot of padding in it.

Yeah, if I were buying the bike, that seat wouldn't last 10 minutes after I got it home...

I think all of us NGW owners are Hopeful!
For me personally I'm hopeful that any work I've done on my wing works out.
