Also, forgot to get a pic, but the rear wheel straightened out just by replacing the bearings and centering the axle shaft correctly the proper amount of torque. The fella I had helping me has professional motorcycle shop experience and taught me how important it really is to get that centered correctly with the spacers, not just reefing it down with the torque wrench and riding away.

Interesting Bonzai paint on the final drive. Different, but coming along. Keep the pics coming.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

It's been a while since I've done any updating. As of today, June 25th, I've completed everything I previously mentioned. Pads, fork seals, timing, paint, etc. After getting it all back together, I sprung a leak in the final drive. It started as a couple drips falling from the front of the swingarm. I freaked out at first thinking I was losing engine oil, then noticed it pooled at the u-joint boot/cover at the front of the driveshaft. Being a bit lazy about it, I continued to ride after checking the fluid level wasn't down any. After a handful more miles it got significantly worse, so now we're back into pieces. The thing that trips me up most about this, is that there is an obviously damaged seal on the end of the driveshaft that goes into the final drive. I'm confused as to whether or not that's the only thing keeping the fluid in the final drive. It looks like there is a seal in the drive itself, so I'm confused why there would be one on the shaft also? Here's some more pics. You can see the fluid coating my back tire in the artsy farmland pic.

The seal in the swing arm/drive shaft area is to keep the spline coupling greased. There is a front seal on the input shaft of the final drive itself as well. To get an idea of the breakdown, you might want to search a site like Bike Bandit for OEM parts, by year and make/model. They use the factory parts drawings for reference.

Did you put a new bearing in the rear wheel ?

Some old 1200s had a problem with the hub of the wheel wearing oval where the bearing seats ....

Yeah I did. With the final drive off its pretty apparent that the gear oil is coming from the input though. The output still looks clean and dry. Still probably the smartest approach to replace all the seals.

Thanks for that recommendation. So much easier than explaining to the 20 something year old parts guy at Fox Powersports.

Where is the seal on the driveshaft supposed to go? Part #29 must fit in the part I circled in the second pic???

P/N 29 fits over the prop shaft and slides down to the FD end. Once it is seated it seals the prop shaft and the pinion joint (the part you have circled). Make sure you install it the correct way so that there is no leakage of the FD oil into the swing arm. The pinion joint is lubricated with the FD oil.

Cheers
