Restored gauge’s almost ready to assemble(yes, I’ll repaint the gauge dial centers white!) and the valve covers where hand polished while I wait for new hoses

Going to re-do the gauge needles, shouldn’t have red centers! Don’t know what I was thinking, I’ve never done that on any others

I’d rather look at your pictures than watch old reruns of Mannix. And I love Mannix. What a collection of Honda’s Irishman 1.

Re: The next 1975 restoration
Well just added oil and coolant, started right up. Trying to get her timed and rung smooth now. Applied all the safety and clearance decals, installed the restored gauges. New radiator hoses and reinstalled missing hose guards and stock OEM hose clamps. What else?.

Re: The next 1975 restoration
After getting everything together, oil and coolant, I couldn’t get it timed, no power on one side of the points, switched coils and then power on both sides all the time. Tried different point assemblies and condensers. Nothing worked. Went back to the dyna 2000 and it worked sooo,

- Reinstalled the dyna 2000 ignition and it started right up. Damn, I always put these back to stock points and condensers

Not wishing you to have spark challenges, but glad I'm not the only one that kinda stuff happens too. It does make the day more interesting though!!! Hey Irishman1 the bike is looking great. These pics are teasers though as we can't see the whole bike and take it all in. When do we get to see a future bike of the month in all her glory? Also really like the colour of this bike.

Re: The next 1975 restoration
Factory restoration down to reproduction warning labels. But Dyna ignition? I guess out of sight out of mind…
Some years ago, when I was still restoring muscle cars, I tended to go the “restification” route as opposed to factory restoration. Getting factory correct labeling, firewall marks, weld spatter and paint runs just rubbed me the wrong way. Same with bikes.
Don’t get me wrong, 1000 point restorations provide a glimpse back in time, but there’s also a solid place for period Correct mods to be perpetuated for historical reference purposes as well. Not to mention that it gives a broader perspective on creativity and ingenuity. Something beyond Mother Honda.

I almost certainly won't have to tell you, as I would guess you already know, but the chrome engine hangers are wrong for that year.

Re: The next 1975 restoration
Yea, I’ve got at least 6 sets of points and backing plates to try yetdesertrefugee wrote:Factory restoration down to reproduction warning labels.
