"Double Nature" build

#1

Post by ole496 »

Well here goes nothing...

I finally decided to start a build for my bike. I've had this bike for 6 years, only put 5 miles on it over that span and it has been constantly in some state of repair/rebuild ever since. After finally getting things all dialed in mechanically, the carbs died yet again. So, I stripped down the whole bike and I'm going to take it from the frame up as much as time and money will allow. I already have a small fortune invested into this bike and I need to finally get this on the road. I've been buying parts when I can and saving up for extra goodies. The next few pictures will show where I'm headed.

I named it "Double Nature" because it has the soul of a performance touring bike with the outward appearance of a naked Street Machine. In my signature below I have a link to the youtube video of the bike after putting a lot of time and money into parts and polish. The video shows the bike before the exhaust went on and before I finished up a few odds and ends. Then I took it for the 5 mile ride and the brakes failed...locked up and died kind of fail.

I took the brakes apart and left it sit. Partly because of winter, lack of money and lost my interest. Some time went by and my discouragement of the constant issues I had been having subsided and I decided to give it another go last fall. I lovingly rebuilt the brakes, struggled some with setting up the front end and was ready to take the bike for another ride. Unfortunately, the carbs suffered a total loss...leaking fuel and running rough. So, instead of rebuilding the carbs again, I took out my frustrations on the bike and took it all down to the frame.

The bike originally had been sitting for a very long time. It had several issues that I identified right away. Here is the bike after I brought it home and power washed it.

I have to admit, it looked halfway decent after I washed it but mechanically it had all sorts of issues.
