thats the goal for mine too.robin1731 wrote:It is rattle can. It is a factory Chrysler color from dupli-color. Don't recall the name or number without going out to look at the can. After a couple of months I will wet sand and polish it. It will be a 10' paint job.
And yes, 78 and 79 are very similar. Turn signals are different, round on 78, square/rectangle on 79. Mine will be aftermarket along with the tail light. This isn't a restore, just get it decent and ready to ride.

Re: My 79 project.
Took the belt covers and valve covers to the powder coater on Wednesday. Got them back today. They look grey in the pics but it is a silver, almost metallic look. Also got the tail light in the mail today and got it put on and wired in.
Adjusted the valves while I was in there. Also put new valve cover gaskets and bolt seals on.

Re: My 79 project.
I had the engine covers powder coated on my red 75, They looked good and were easy to care for. Still looked the same when I sold it after two and a half years.
Bikes at present:
83 XL 600r with a 2004 XR650L engine
And a slightly worse for the wear BMW GS adventure bike awaiting repair
83 GL in process

On some KZ builds I've done we had some of the covers done in clear. Still had the aluminum look but easy to keep clean and holds up very well.

Re: My 79 project.
Was able to get a little done on this today. We reshaped the seat a little. Then I put some rubber trim on the bottom edge. This will help to prevent the metal cutting in to the cover once it is on. This seat is pretty rough. Looks like it was maybe in a wreck at some time. With a lot of the original foam worn down. Then reshaped for a king/queen. That's why the different colors of foam on there.
I did also work on the rear brakes. They were dragging pretty good/bad. Didn't notice until I pulled it off the lift a few weeks ago. Ended up being a combo of the pedal hanging and the pads dragging on the pins. Some cleaning and grease did the trick.

Just taking a break from wet sanding the paint. Finished with the 3000 grit. Will start the rubbing compound here directly. New tires will be here Tuesday.

LOL, in the shed is something is only 17 years old. That's pretty new for me. I'm tempted though to sell that one on as is.wingrider wrote:snip........... Do you have the next project lined up?
Oh, and the seat will be the hold up on this. And the Cushman my grand daughter and I have. My upholsterer has a lot on her plate. And my stuff takes a back seat to most of it. I can't complain though for the price.

Re: My 79 project.
The 79 is on the lift without a front end on it right now. The stem bearings felt notchy. I took it apart thinking just old hard grease. It does have tapered bearings. No such luck though. New bearing kit on the way. Now the lift is tied up until at least the middle of next week.

Weakling.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.
