It was a busy week, but I finally got around to mounting the new tires and tubes. The painted pumpkin is a close match - close enough for government work. ;)

And since I was doing one of these for a customer, I figured I might as well freshen up the helmet lock housings as well.

so how do you get the red into the recesses and everything else black? Do you just do the red first, then the black second?

It's the other way around. Black first, then red. Red is done by hand, not sprayed.

Correct. The black is fully cured and once cooled down, the red gets laid down and cured.

In between customer work, home projects, and a major CB1100F resto-mod build that I've been working on, I have continued to pick away at my '78. I'm now at the reassembly stage and am enjoying this part. Over the past week I installed the repaired/powder coated tank, swingarm, and rebuilt the rear brake system, then installed. Every bit that came off the bike either got painted or powder coated and everything looks new again. And yesterday, I finally got the rear wheel back on, along with the pumpkin that I painted to match.

IMO, this is how the wheels should have looked from the factory. My vision was to have gold wheels that would tie in with the burgundy paint and gold pinstriping. Now it has come to fruition and looks every bit as good as I had hoped.

Next is the front end. Everything is off and now I just have to swap in all the parts that are already restored and ready to go. That ugly center stand is coming off this week and will get a fresh coat of gloss black powder too.

I'm hoping to have the bike done and ready to ride in late September/early October. It has been a lonnng wait!

Wow. Stunning good looks. The LTD influence with the gold comstars grabbed my attention. If you were closer I would send you some work. I enjoyed following your build iof the 1100F on that forum as well. A true craftsman.

Thanks very much!

The 1100F resto-mod and then my son's 1100F restoration got in the way of finishing this. I'm already quite a ways along with my second 1100F resto-mod, but decided that it was time to finish this one first. It's hard to believe I've had this for almost 3 years already. It sat for close to a year before I started doing much with it. It's time has come!

A couple of things here...

1) Completely agree that you've done some impressive work there.

2) Based on #1 above and the mention made about your 1100F resto, I'd love to see a link to that thread, if possible...

3) Having spent 11 years in Lowell, MA, I had to chuckle about having this one ready for the road around October. Sheesh, just in time for nice weather!

Here's a link to the new build thread for my red 1100F resto-mod: http://www.cb1100f.net/modules.php?name ... highlight=

I haven't gotten into a lot of detail in this thread, but it will give you an idea of what's going on. It will have the same present-day CBR600RR swingarm, a slightly better VFR front end, CBR wheels, Wiseco 1123 motor, a SS Yosh replica pipe that one of the 1100F members made a small batch of, and a bunch of other unique goodies. It will be red since it only made sense to have one in each color. ;)

Image

As far as riding in October goes, it's a piece of cake. There are plenty of nice days to ride well into November and I try to take advantage of every one of them.

Thank you as well for the compliments!
