Hello, after months of reserch, finally got a gpood deal on this one

Ugly seat with initials of the previous owner. 360 kg that I did drive back without rear brake under the rain :shock: :oops:

One full day to remove all this fairings and stuff

Already some surprises, rusty parts on the frame, shocks are dead etc... not a big deal, but I noticed that the expansion tank was empty apart some very dark oil on the bottom. Opening the radiator and :

Can you confirm that it smells like a cylinder head gasket ?

Also, i need some help right now, because im trying to photoshop my plan.

Basic thing is, I would like to remove the gas tank to open the frame. It means cutting the frame under the fake tank, and relocating lots of stuff...

I wonder if I can remove the "airbox" I mean the metal case part between the carbs... I see that it holds the commands for throttle and starter, is that all? can i just dump this, and make tubes to get fresh air from the front of the bike, and save a lot of space to put either alectrical stuff or the bottom of a home made tank?

If you mean the actual tank, it removes through the back. Remove swingarm and move brake master and battery box and it wiggles out. If you mess with the intakes, it will require jetting changed and more. Some have tried pod filters, but they usually have had disappointing results. Theses are cv carbs and they need a large enough air box to help with the delayed pulses from the motor. It would be easier if the carbs came out easily, but it's a pain.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Hi thanks i think i was not clear : i already removed the tank. I would like to put a true one instead of the fake one but i Will need to cut the upper tubes ... Si i try to figure à way to gain space to have electric stuff and a tank behind the fake tank ;)

There is a member here right now who is making a "Valkyrie-Lite"- basically something very similar to what you want to do. He pulled the underseat tank and added a Valkyrie tank in the "proper" place. I'll do what I can to find and post the link, but in the meantime it should be enough to get you started.

As for the radiator goop- yeah, nothing good. I wouldn't tear it apart until you get it running first to see what's going on, but I wouldn't be surprised if a head gasket swap is in your future. (Thankfully, it's not that hard to do...)

Hey Lucien thanks for the link ! but i'm inspired by this one mostly for the tank :

mine 1200 runs, i noticed only some noise at low rpm, like the noise when the gearbox bounces between 2 gears... but obviously not a gear box problem as i was running fine. At high rpm/speed no strange noises, a little white smoke when cold thats it. maybe some fairing or bike stand vibrating i dunno

Anyway i'm going for head maintenance, plus starter ( fails to start when hot), plus wiring ( horror part) plus a lot in fact ;)

if i cannot find enought room to remove the original tank then i would go for something easier :( like this one ( without the red)

Hi, I know that several posts talk about head gasket supply but, as far aas i know honda discontinued the full kit...

OK, but why do you want a whole kit? I have ordered all the gaskets separate many times. Not that much hassle. And they do all come from the same place. Just curious to your line of thinking. ;)

It depends on how much you plan to do...if you are just pulling heads, you need two head gaskets, and 4 little O rings or the oilers, two for each side. Should be visible in any parts fishe.

Hello thanks for the info. Now i wonder why is there so many parts in the kits.... Oh and also i Will put some new valve steam gaskets, maybe check the water pump to be sure...

That kit you posted has a few more parts because you could pull the heads down a bit and replace some more seals. Looked like there were valve stem seals, exhaust gaskets, and possibly a seal or two for the thermostat and water pipes.
