I have a 10mm crows foot but not a 17mm for the other side and it would be hard to be on both sides of the bike at the same time, so I opted for the strip down to access the connector with the appropriate pair of gland spanners which I do have.

It would be nice to have an apprentice to pick up all the tricks along the way, but the grandson is not the slightest bit interested at the moment.

G'day to Everyone! :-D :-D :-D

Home at last after a grueling week at work, the days have cooled down to 30's but the nights are dropping down to 5 deg C.

attacked the sidecar shock - stub axle as i want to fit the original GL-1500 air shock to it so i can adjust the ride.

Had to cut the old fitting off the end as the new shock is longer.

Mad up a couple of brackets and welded them in place, i thought the arm was solid steel but No! :IDTS: :-? it was hollow and i blew a big hole in it, i managed to patch it up though. :)

A couple of rough coats of paint (the rattle can is spitting the paint out) and hopefully i can fit it all tomorrow.

Happy n safe riding to All, Peter.

G'day to All,

not much achieved today as i had to go to Mum's for lunch which took all afternoon.

fitted the stub axle, knocked up a couple of spacers for the shock from some brass rod i had laying around and fitted them.

Sand blasted the hub and applied the first coat of paint, another coat in the morning and if i can acquire a grease seal i will then fit it all tomorrow. Then some chasing up for the air lines.

Happy n safe riding to All, Peter.

Question for you Peter. would adding a piece of metal on the top of the shock mount be worth the effort to add some strength?

Great job Peter.
I love that your statement didn't get much done today, equals more than I did on my projects in a month.
Love the fact that you are working on sidecars. They are so much fun.

G'day to Everyone! :-D :-D :-D

To your question "5speed" i thought of bridging the top of the shock end but decided not to as there is practically no sideways force exerted on the arm unless a crazed cage driver slams into my side.

Too right! "ehadams" sidecars are great fun to ride and tinker on and i am hanging out to take this outfit on the highway crossy.gif

I managed to get a grease seal from the local trailer component shop at a scary expense of $2.20  I just wish more bike parts were in that price range.

Fitted the brake caliper, handbrake caliper and brake cable. dancr just have to source some fittings for the air shock so until then she is held up by the scissor jack.

My new rocker cover gasket turned up so i could fit the later model (98-2000 I think) rocker cover and engine guard. Not worried about the left one as you can bearly see it and it wasnt in such a state as my right one.

Hoping tomorrow is another successful day. :crosso

G'day to Everyone! :-D :-D :-D

Thanks 5speed, i am learning as i go along too

Fitted the Roo Bar on the front and started to construct the wiring, also temporarily fitted the fuel tank so i can fit the fuel pump in a protected but easy to get to place.

Had to service a typewriter which took some of my Winging time away, and today i have to get an IBM Selectric going for some Lady, that will absorb a few precious Winging hours too. crying1

Only have today and tomorrow then its back to Paradise for another miserable week of mundane time wasting work. :(

well that's it for another week. Managed to get most of the wiring done on the sidecar, then fitted all the wiring and stuff around the battery box and fitted the fairing on the right side.

G'day to All :-D :-D :-D

Well it is raining here most of the time now, and i don't like my bikes getting wet (not good for them  )(me neither)

Been messing about with many small things and forgetting to use the camera, the outfit is taking shape and will be on the road soon i hope.

Dismantled the central tail light which i connect to the brakes, it was full of dust and the lens was cracked, they seem not to come apart easy as the gooey glue used to seal them up is tenacious, so i just submerged them in the parts washer full of kerosene overnight and the sealant turns to soft jelly making it easy to pry the lens off.

I also did this to the side reflectors which come empty as standard and optional lights inside, there are 3 lights on each side, but when you convert them to LED's they don't glow the same so i decided to put two more in, but there is a wall right where i want the extra LED's, thus dismantle to chisel the unwanted wall's out.

The kerosene also disolved the silver reflecting paint on the central fitting so i had to buy a rattle-can of bright silver paint.

The GL-1500 is more challenging to work on than the GL-1000, and i think the most Toilety design Honda made on these are the mirrors, they are a pain in the neck just to remove them unless you want to scratch the paintwork. :x :x :x :x :x

Now that i wanted to paint her i had to dismantle the mirrors and not knowing how to do it i destroyed the backing plate with side-cutters to get the glass out without chipping them, then i could get the the central screw to remove the backing plate freeing the body for the color change.

You see plenty of mirrors on e-bay but they nearly all have bad scratches on the bodys (and need painting anyway) or the glass is damaged or smashed completely, so i stole the mirrors off the 90SE and went through this process to repair my newly painted ones.

That's about it for now, hope to complete a little more today.

I have decided to convert the 90SE to a totally naked GL-1500 similar to the GL-1000, i am looking forward to starting this project as there are many modifications to do, but first this outfit has to be completed.

Oh, the silver saddlebag is fitted as i have to manufacture some means of utilizing the left saddlebag as the sidecar body will be very close and i wont be able to open the door enough to gain proper entry, so it doesn't matter if i scratch this one.

Happy and Safe Riding to Everyone, Peter.
