G'day to Everyone! :-D

I managed to rip open the final drive before I did any damage to it, the backlash spacer was 2.08mm and I replaced it with a 2.2mm one that I have, just have to assemble her.

I made up a special pinned socket to remove the "Ring gear bearing preload retainer" a while back but lent it out :-?

Oh well make a new one :) All I had was a 100mm chunk of high tensile rod, it machines nice but the swarf comes off like an unwinding spring and tangles everywhere.

used a sawn off 1" socket pressed in with 5 ton so no welding required.

I did not have enough 4mm pins (need 12, had 8) but she did the job well.

Just have to fit and torque things up now (too many beers got in the way last night) anim-cheers1

Happy and Safe Riding to All, Peter.

G'day to All :-D

my #64 drill bits arrived so I did the "Off idle hesitation" modification on the air jets for #1 project.

I have been putting a lot of time on a secret Goldwing project, but I am not telling until I can make it a reality , otherwise I will make a fool of myself shakehands

I am also get a bit cheesed off burning my fingers on an oil change out, so I knocked up a cheap remote sump plug undoing tool.

the rest of the day I went for a quick ride and forgot the sunblock, paying for it now, then I snoozed off for the arvo :sleepy

as usual still awaiting small parts that I just bought on e-bay to continue the work.

Happy & Safe Riding to all.

Peter.

Sugs , I'd be happy if I could do 1/10 of what he does in the time it takes him.

No I have to be questionable and ask for an 'splananation of the sump tool...???

G'day to All :-D

I dismantled the final drive, changed the adjusting shim and assembled her with fresh oil. Took her for a ride of 30km (18.64114 miles) and you could fry an egg on the final drive.

I am not messing about anymore, I have a spare and going to buy another, strip, clean and paint each one individually without getting components mixt up, the ones I have are off to the scrap metal merchant.

The 1500 sump plug is located right under the engine, thus the need for a remote socket driver, I like to get the oil hot with all the bits stirred up so less sediment is left in the sump as is when you let it get cold and settle out.

Don't know how much I will get done today as my grandson is under my feet.

Best regards, Peter.

How strange?

my 98 Valky is the same.

You would think they would have at least moved it to the other side of the engine so the oil would completely drain out. :IDTS:

Most shops put them on a lift. So the bike/engine would be level. Allowing all/most of the oil to drain. ;)

G'day to Everyone! :-D

Many thanks Liam for your beautiful words, makes me very happy to think others enjoy what I am doing. anim-cheers1

Have big plans for the week, but the weather is a bit yuck! then I dropped a heavy home made (not by me) stool on my foot and now I can not put my boots on crying1

did a couple of welding jobs, had two gear change levers, changed the profile on one and cut the end tip off the toe, then cut the complete toe off the other and welded them together, now I can put two rubbers on it so I can change gears more easily on the sidecar.

I got sick and tired of trying to hold the final drive with one hand and loosen or tighten bolts with the other, so I knocked up a bracket to hold it to my welding bench utilising the holes drilled there for a vice, also machined up a couple of spacers to hold the middle down too.

Cut the end off a sad final drive coupling, machined up a scrap piece left over from the leading link design stage, pressed them together with a couple of ton and away she went. worked perfectly action1

Ok, so I was hiding my secret project but I am feeling that it will all be just a nice dream as sourcing the components seem to be harder than I anticipated, so I am blurting it out and maybe someone can point me in the direction to go in.

I am getting old and pushing the outfit backwards is a little hard, so I want to install a reverse gear on her.

My concept is to use a planetary gear set up on the exit shaft in place of the damper. With all gears locked together it is just straight drive, but if you lock the planetary gear ring the ring gear will turn in the opposite direction of the sun gear.

I have drawn up a plan of concept, nothing in the diagram is to scale, it is just a concept, but putting it into reality is .....er......Yes!
