G'day to Everyone!
Thanks guys for the fantastic replies
Finally finished the rear axle (3 days in the making ) I have always dreaded machining Stainless as it is so hard to work with, but I am slowly getting the hang of it and the results are pleasing
I am finding the trick is "Slow and Gentle", machining the axle nut I was running my lathe at 90rpm and a feed rate of 0.065mm/rev (0.003"/rev) this is slow going but as you can see the results are like a bought one if not better

Re: Pedro!'s rebuilding projects
I bought a length of Stainless to do a couple of other jobs too and have some for a future project.
I knocked up a couple of spacers for the leading link front axle spacers that I had to machine down and put ugly future rusting washers in, I will change them out on the final assembly.
Happy n Safe Riding to All, Peter.

Re: Pedro!'s rebuilding projects
Got to get this back on topic. You guys need to read Mechanical Fasteners by Juan Hung Lo.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Re: Pedro!'s rebuilding projects
G'day to All
its fantastic to see the humour rolling in
didn't do much Saturday, just fitted the gold plated diaphragm pistons into my later model carbs.
today (Easter Sunday) I started to clean out the carport which resembles a ruptured rectum. I think I need to order a skip bin next break and do a real harsh clean up.
Off to Telfer tomorrow morning for another horrid week away
Happy and safe Riding to Everyone, Peter.

Re: Pedro!'s rebuilding projects
G'day to Everyone.
Back home again, just been messing about in the workshop until the Engineer inspected my handiwork, all is fine
Pulled the chassis off so i can get to the bike again and slowly assemble her.
I am modifying the rear brakes, standard is;
Rear brake pedal gives full whack to the front left caliper and a reduced force to the rear caliper.
Front brake lever goes to the right front caliper.
My new version;
Rear brake pedal now gives full whack to the rear brake caliper and a reduced force to the sidecar caliper.
Front brake lever now goes to both front calipers. (still to be done).
Thus the rear brake lines need to be modified, the line to the rear caliper was easy, just a little bending, but the line to the sidecar had to be made from new material.
I made up a cheap brake line bending tool from old bearing centres and a scrap bit of angle iron. Works well
