Re: Pedro!'s rebuilding projects
Well "wingrider" you had me thinking, so I ran some string lines about and measured my new width.
I am not sure how to spell UPSET, but that is what I am!
Wether the DoT will notice the small difference? I hope I can remove the excess by slotting the mounting holes in the base of the sidecar boat?
I also have to make up a new rear axle otherwise I have to remove the sidecar to remove the rear wheel.
Peter.

- 5mm overwidth :-( I guess I lost a mm or two with the kink on the tapemeasure with the bulldog clip, so it could be 3mm.

Oh no! Hopefully they won’t detect that, but given some of your stories about them, let’s hope you tighten her in just a little.

Re: Pedro!'s rebuilding projects
I don’t believe that would work for him, as the hack tub’s fender sticks out past the wheel...which is probably why he has the wood on the wheel during the measurement.DocRoot wrote:Narrower wheel?

Re: Pedro!'s rebuilding projects
G'day to Everyone
and many thanks for the kind comments
Back home again and a bit of messing in the workshop. I have realised that I can not remove the rear axle as the sidecar will get in the way The GL-1000 was easy, just machine down the button end diameter a little and just turn it around, but the 1500 is not so easy as the swing arm clamps onto the button end.
Keeping costs down and utilising what I have I decided to use the original axle.
First is to fix the nut onto the axle shaft in such a way that it also stays put when in the swing arm. Simple, drill a 3mm hole right on the edge of the nut and through the axle, smash in a rolled pin, then cut a small groove in the final drive hub, that should stop it turning and undoing in service.

G'day to All
and I am enjoying the lathe work too
Not much to show for todays efforts, I cut the M20 x 1.5 thread on the end of the rear axle.

Re: Pedro!'s rebuilding projects
I now need to manufacture a special nut to screw onto the other end but my internal threading bar is 20mm plus the cutting bit, way too big
Easy, grind it down
it took longer than I planned, the rotational speed has to be slow and I was taking 0.5mm grinds, still it is done now
Happy and safe riding to All, Peter.

The other day I sliced off a few inches of SS 30mm bar to make the required axle nut, so today I machined most of it out.

Re: Pedro!'s rebuilding projects
The threading tool was still too large to slip down the 18.5.. bore so I had to grind some more off the high spots until it fits down the workpiece.
