Just returned with a $300 Craigslist titled '89 GL1500.
Might be the first bike I part out :(
I never realized they only have 2 carbs.

Does have reverse.

Tank just a rusty as any GL1000 I pick up.

Missing a couple plastics, maybe see if I can get it running and make a Valkyrie-influenced naked 1500???

Anyway, a waaay distant future project.

PO said he put gas in the carbs and it fired up.
Seems legit, as mechanically everything looks good.

Good thing Honda designed them with the reverse feature, man these things are HEAVY.

Heck of a deal.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

WOW, thats some rusty tank. How are you going to take care of that? I'm using vinegar to clean out my GL1000's, but it is much lest rusted than yours.

every now and then, when things are not going to well in the shop, i ask myself why i do it. and the answer is that riding is good....but time in the shop is also good. - CYBORG

I usually just take them to a local radiator shop to have them acid cleaned and Red-coated.
Usually done the next day, costs about $85.00
I'm too cheap to farm out repairs on most things on my bikes, heck, I even change and balance my own tires to save $, but to just drop off a tank and have both things done, it's $ well spent.
Also, the way they do it, I'm sure all the rust is gone. The only drawback is usually they remove (cut out) the screen, but I've never had a problem without it.

But I might try citric acid as in this thread...

Hi Wog! You've really done some amazing work! I wish I had 1/10 the experience and skill that you have. I guess you've had a lot of experience with the Gold Wings. I guess it's like the old saying goes, "Experience cost. How much you wanna pay?" Great job, great pics and great tips for all of us newbies. Thanks, RonHolly

Is that a low number?

Let Pistol Pete know. He is collating 75 numbers.

The paint is in excellent condition.
Couple of questions for you '75 guru's...

The pin-stripping on the "gastank" covers overlaps at the ends by the seat, very carefully cut to match the angles. Is that original?
Paint and striping not original. The OEM 'striping' was a decal under clear laquer.

My '78's and '79's have the Honda badge in the front under the headlight. Did '75 come with one?
No

Did "Hondaline" make any luggage racks for these bikes? I didn't see any markings but this one is very good for an after-market one. Turn signal mounts and all.
Yes, I don't believe this one is Hondaline.
