Good to see some progress. I split this section off so you can have your very own topic in the members restorations and projects forum. Good place to watch your progress.

Oh but to have round or square winkers? Nice platform for what ever you are dreaming up. Looks to be in good shape.

It's an 82 GL1100. Here's the intro page. http://www.ngwclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=44442

I did a lot of the small things, and I find new things to "fix" every time I mess with it.

At the moment I have a little of both worlds on the winkers! THe fronts are attached via u-bolts and strap. I'm not sure what the headlight is off of, but it's got a high beam indicator on top it. It's going away... I actually think I might put it on one of my Z50's.

So far I have a set of timing belts on the way, along with oil and air filters. I also have a set of 4 LED blinkers on the way. I plan to do the oil, timing belts, forks and swinger at the same time. The PO tried to "trike" this thing, and his welds were junk. He blasted through the swinger and left nasty booger looking attachments all over the bike. None seem to stick very well.

I'm trying to decide on a dual headlight set-up. I think I've made up my mind... I'm good about putting up pictures. As soon as I get something in, I'll post them up!

Next, I need a seat bad. I like the look of the GL1000 Corbin seats, but I don't see that they have one like it for the 1100. I may just go with another seat from the parts yard in Hurst. It has to have a P-Pad for the wife to ride along. It just can't be a sofa-esque GL seat.

I have an LED brake light I'm going to put on it, I just need to find the right fender before I get it installed.

I want to drop it down in the back a bit... probably 11 inch shocks. I've seen some recommendations... I've got some that I like to use for my z's that have bypass and are adjustable with nitrogen. I can actually fit some for one of the dirt bikes I'm building. Same size holes. Just add some preload and air to test. THey may not be heavy duty enough.

New bars. I like the look of drag bars, but I may do a little rise. I also like the window type of bars. I have some drag bars from my little cafe I can test out.

New tires. I found some Shinko dual sports I really like. I dig the look of a semi-knobby tire on rat-like bikes. Plus they look like the tires on one of my little bikes.

Powder coat the wheels. WHite looks cool, but a pain to keep clean.

New all in 1 speedo/dummy lights/tach.

I'm sure there's more. I'm just too tired to think of any more.

I've got that tire on my XL600R. They stick pretty good on tar, have nice gravel road manners, and completely suck in soft loose sandy dirt, or wet grass/mud. I had that bike out at a buddies practice motocross track a few times when they were out practicing. In between sessions, I would go putz around on the track. I couldn't pull the front wheel off the ground without a good bump, and couldn't hold it off the ground over stuff, due to wheelspin. So as long as you don't take your 1100 out to the motocross track, and expect a podium finish, that will be a cool tire.

I have also seen where people have put that set on the FT500. I'm seriously considering it for my next set. I put a set of 712s on it a couple of seasons ago, and the rear needs replacing. I will probably put another 712 on the rear this time, and replace both front and back with the 705s at the same time, once the front wears out.

I have put Shinko tires on 3 different bikes with good results. I put the 712s on my CB900F before I sold it to pay for my 77GL, and they worked quite well on that platform, as well.

I am interested to hear how the 705s handle under a big bike.

Ha, the closest these will see to an MX track is if I use it to haul one of my Z50's to the track! It would be nice to go to Colorado and maybe get on a dirt road every once in a while... but that's as far as it will go. I just like the look, and I have some Michelins on the dirt bike I'm building now that look a lot like these.

I hope they handle well on a big bike, I assume they will do okay. I have a friend who ran these for a while on his 650 dual sport, which he says weighs 550 (seems heavy for a dual sport), and he loved them. He does island riding/cruising and mild trail cruising in HI.

I have only put about a thousand miles on them on my XL600R. They still look really good. I can see that they've worn some, but good for another season, for sure.

Being that wide is just not going to work in the trails, sorry but I suspect all show and no trail go.
