Wow, Walt, that is quite an honor. And your bike looks to be well deserving. We do need lots more pictures you know.

Thanks DL1000!

Well, I finally got time to put some finishing touches on the 76 and put my new drill press to work on the rotors...

When I started this mod I didn't stop to think about how many procedures there would actually be...drilled each hole twice (started a pilot hole, then the full-sized hole, then chamfered BOTH sides of EACH rotor...all in all about 650 actions on the drill press for this job... :orange

With that done, I got up the nerve to cut the old seat pan and mount the fiberglass cafe tail. I used the original seat foam as a filler and support for the cafe tail. A serrated bread knife worked well to whittle the foam down to size, then followed up by a flap sanding disc on the angle grinder... Then I bolted the cafe tail to the modified seat pan. The entire unit then bolts right up to the original mounting points on the bike and is very solid.

Image

The seat cushion that came with the tail was too thick, so I dismantled that, cut the foam in half and recovered it, using velcro to hold it in place.

What did you choose for handlebars, how about that front fender, and where did you source those wonderful mufflers?

Inquiring minds need to know when something comes out this good.

Thanks Roady,
She rides surprisingly well...even in the twisties....I'd like to build a set of rearsets like Greg Foresi did...but I'm not sure I have that kind of talent.

Fred,
The bars are superbike bars, drilled out to accept the control wiring.
That's the stock front fender, cut down front and rear.
The mufflers are Emgos and the headers are ceramic coated.
She sounds pretty good, and just loud enough at full song!

I also just read thru the post. Very nice build. Colors are very complimentary to the bike.
Way to go.

How did you go about cutting the fenders? Did you cut and then roll the edge(s)? Curious how you got a smooth/straight edge?

To cut the front fender, I marked it with a sharpie then protected what was to be the new inside edge with blue tape.
Used a cutting wheel with the fender off the bike. Then put the fender back on and off a few times and just eyeballed it, trimming a bit here and there until it was even. Just took the sharp edges off with the grinder so i wouldn't slice my hand off when cleaning the wheels lolol
