Musical Bikes

Post by Whiskerfish »

I finally started working on bikes again. The ultimate goal is to retire the red 78 and build my current black bike into a touring bike with the Arthur Fulmer package from my red bike. Then to take the 75 I recently aquired and build a new street fighter.

My Black bike is a 78/79 mix. I aquired Randakk's front brake system from the RC003 Bike when he upgraded earlier this year. I want this on my Touring bike. So I need to swap the front forks on the black bike to a earlier model to get the brakes to bolt up. Today I pulled the forks off the 75 and am rebuilding and polishing them before they go on the Black bike. Then the front end from the Black Bike will go on the 75.

You better do a spreadsheet on what goes on which bike.

fulmer bags.... either you loved them or hated them... they didn't last in business long so apparently more people were of the second group

Like a lot of car accessories I think eventually the fulmer bags are going to have a bit of a following.
When vehicles get old it is pretty neat to see them all kitted out in period costume. There is a guy with a 60s VW here who has the roof rack and sideskirts, etc, and lowered a bit. I always see folks my age looking at it as we saw all that stuff on it new.

Polishing and rebuilding of the forks is done. The sliders are inside the house now warming up for several coats of clear before I put the front end back together. The back end has been taken apart to facilitate replacing the old gas tank with one I had reconditioned at a Radiator shop. I still have to sand and paint the outside of it and will try to get at that tomorrow.

So the black bike from my avatar looks like this right now

Image

Here is a look at the 75 with the78 front end on it. I got the bakes setup and bled but I forgot that I have to rebuild the Steering stem before she hits the road so all of that will come back off at a later date.

Here is a pic of the shop as it is today.

I suspect there isn't much house remodeling going on at the Whiskerfish household right about now :-D

If we get up to see my sister-in-law I'll have to stop by and offer some encouragement ;)

Hmmmm .... looks like you could use a 'supervisor'.

I believe the 'supervisor's station' is just below and to the left side of the shop as pictured.

At least that's where it used to be.

Weather's a little miserable up here just now. I may have to send my LITTLE brother. He can 'supervise' with the best of them.

Beer drinkers oooops excuse me.. "Supervisors" are always welcome!!

The home remodeling is under control for now. I have the daily "honey Do" lists but big stuff is on hold for the next year. After Deer Season next year I start demolition again. The rule is bikes and house work get a year at a time each.

Yup, it should be bikes first. At the end of today my garage at least will have a plywood roof (boy I'm cold) and a layer of felt and tar paper. If I can get the front closed in I might be able to work on bikes again.
