'83 Aspencade Radio

#1

Post by tomward »

This '83 Aspencade radio works but won't recieve a station.Speakers work and I'd like to get the entire fairing emptied of all the radio equipment that is in there.
Does the fairing come apart? or do I have to have really small hands to get all the parts out?
Hoping to get this '83 GL1100 Aspencade up and running as a reliable unit before my son gets back from Afghanistan this time next year. Thanks in advance for your help.

I just stripped the radio out of my 82 Aspy. Yes, small hands and finding the nightmare of connectors.... There are three main components for the radio. I believe they are the tuner, the amp and the preamp.
I found the end of the internet

And after toiling in the dark recesses what have you discovered?Did you actually take the units out of the fairing?
I have not yet got mine out of the fairing.Soldered two wires in place where they had rubbed the insulation away.
That was up on the radio dial wire and the voltmeter wire I think.
Everything works so thats good.
But the radio has no antenna and all I get is static.
Sounds like it'd like to catch a station but nothing yet.
All the fuses are still good.
Maybe I could hook up an outside 4 ohm speaker and see if that'll do it?

I live about 12 miles south of Raleigh and about 5 miles off of I-40 and have a perfectly good antenna that you can have if your willing to come and get it.
