76 finally running right

Post by lcallison »

In 06, I rode my 76 to the Grand Canyon and back getting 29-31 mpg. After I got back I tried a different set of carbs off a 78. My mileage jumped to 34-37. This week i finally pulled the 77 cams off, put the 76 cams back on, reinstalled the 76 carbs, put new belts on (the old ones had almost 50k), and now it's running good and I got 35 mpg on the first tank through it. Finally! It ran great before, but could never get decent mileage. It had 77 cams on it because I had the 77 heads off my parts bike redone when I blew the head gasket in 05. It's running great again. It ran good with the 78 carbs, but is running even better now.

Now that's good to hear. Sometimes changing cams can do some odd stuff.
Now that you have her well set up I hope she stays that way.
Enjoy life,
Cookie
