GL650 Interstate Trunk Relocator Kit Trouble
So far so good with my newly purchased GL650 Interstate. However, the trunk relocator kit is causing me frustration. This was included and had never been mounted. Please see the attached photo and diagram that references Part 8013-0013. When I attempt to mount the side arm as illustrated, it interferes with the upward swing of the helmet lock lever. I just don't see how it can be expected to work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Are the helmet locks interchangeable left and right?? Could they be swapped so they swing down instead of up?

Good thought, but it wouldn't work. The lever presses down on a protrusion of the side case to lock it down. Thanks.

Does your helmet fit in the trunk ?
Maybe you won't need both ?
Or maybe that's why it wasn't mounted ....

Re: GL650 Interstate Trunk Relocator Kit Trouble
I think that is exactly why it was never mounted. Actually I don't want to mount the trunk at all. It is too small for a FF helmet and is missing the main latch. What I had hoped to do is fabricate a piece that will accept a Givi Monokey plate in place of the trunk. There has to be someone who has done something similar, and I sure would like to hear about it.

Re: GL650 Interstate Trunk Relocator Kit Trouble
Once I proceeded with more of the kit I was able to get it to work. The rear lateral bracket bends the side arms apart just enough. Still, the helmet lock levers rub and the sidecases rub and are now a tight fit. This is not ideal, but I don't know how else I will manage to mount a large top box. I plan to fabricate brackets to mount a Givi universal top plate, which will accept a monolock or monokey box. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I wonder if you could add a few washers in critical places to space the side arms out a bit so the levers have more clearance?

Re: GL650 Interstate Trunk Relocator Kit Trouble
Thanks. I did just that to improve it. I was wrong about the Givi top plate in that you cannot use it by itself to mount a monokey box. While thinking about how I would have to rig this all together, I have pretty much decided to not proceed further with it. There is a reason why I have never found any reference to this kit on the internet. The previous owners could have saved me the same trouble that they probably experienced by trashing it. And actually, for my purposes, a duffel bag with a zipper lock and a cable lock work fine. The purpose is to hold my riding gear and helmet while the bike is parked at the airport. Problem solved.
