Re: has anyone done a brat or cafe style cx
I am doing one now but I am STUPID when it comes to putting a picture up so... but not today! Got some details to work out. Wiring harness almost done exhaust will be baffles welded to headers and then a turnout tip over that. Adding dual disc because of assistance from our friend John across the pond got me a right fork slider that has the caliper mount. Eventually the frame and wheels will be powdered dark blue but I need to test it before that expense. Yes that is a GL500 Pro Link swingarm on the rear. Lots of work there.

Re: has anyone done a brat or cafe style cx
Yea it is on the road but not finished. Moved shop so lot of work and CX Pro on back burner. Powder coat dark blue of frame and wheels, chrome work, clean up hardware and engine detail. Clocked 120MPH on stock speedo! Don't know how accurate that is but....handles well no shakes or wiggles very stable. Goes around curves like on a rail. Very pleased so far. Need to see how modifications are going to hold up. Then to finish it off a nice transparent blue fly screen and gauge faces with etched indication. By the way check out the new site for Trackside Cycles lots of pics there. I have developed a melt proof alternator plug you guys may like. It is on the site.

Re: has anyone done a brat or cafe style cx
these cx500 the front mini fair headlight/ fairings /blinkers...
the best for me to clean up these are to dump out the old cx500 headlight which is the ugliest part, and take the hyosung 650gt headlight out from it's bucket and drop it staight in...fits perfect and has a nice chrome band around it and most of all it's about 1/3 of the weight of the original set-up...

Re: has anyone done a brat or cafe style cx
wingster there are several things to think about
the CX is shaft drive so you are limited in tire sizes
this may rule out the brat style & works better with the cafe.
The ignition system is independant from the battery and alternater.
Like a race bike .....if you wanted No lights and no electric start you cold bump start it & it would run.
the keheien carbs are sensitive to intake modifications.
if you change the airbox or plan on running velocity stacks you can plan on lots and lots and lots of trouble jetting it to run right.

Re: has anyone done a brat or cafe style cx
So-called "cafe racers" have been done to death and most of them are as silly as the over-styled monstrosities that pass for "choppers". The problem is that, in both cases, after a few people made changes to actually improve how their machines worked, others with little or no understanding of why those changes were made copied the way they those machines looked and others with even less understanding copied them until it became all about how the thing looked instead of how it worked and they started making changes that actually were detrimental to function.
For a better understanding of this process read my comments here http://cx500forum.com/forum/cx-customiz ... post299362
For that matter, it wouldn't hurt for anyone contemplating any customization that is not function driven to read through that whole thread and think long & hard about any modifications they are considering (there are pics of a REAL cafe-racer built with function as the priority near the end).
I have said it before and I'm sure I will say it many more times: When you are modifying anything, form must always follow function. Objects that look the way they do because they are designed to work in a certain way always look right. Objects that look the way they do because they are designed to look that way regardless of how that affects the way they work usually look like something is wrong with them.
The world does not need any more poorly conceived and ill functioning "poodle bikes"
