Re: CROSS OVER PARTS LIST
I'm looking/asking re a cross over for the headlight ,signal lights(front) for a 77. Any idea if another Honda(say the 75o or the cx500) from the same year will fit.

Re: CROSS OVER PARTS LIST
Anything can be made to fit if you are determined enough.
My '83 has a an HID reflector &c in a headlight shell & rim from (I think) a CB650/750/who knows what other models and (until I install the LED ones) signals from an '83 GS400, mounted with modified ears from a '78 GS400.
Just about any headlight shell that will accept a standard 7" headlight will work.
Signals are signals. There are are basically only 2 types: plain signals (2 wires) and combined signal/running light units (3 wires).
Your bike (& most Hondas of that era) is wired for signals with dual filament (#1157) bulbs so that the dim filament is lit all the time except when the signals are flashing and the bright filament is the signal. Plain signals will work but unless you add some other lights you won't have the marker lights.
If you get ones that were made for a different make of bike or generic aftermarket ones the wire colours might not match your bike's harness but it should be pretty easy ti figure out which wire goes where.
If you get LED signals you may have to replace the flasher because the original (or whatever it has been replaced with over the course of 30+ years) needs more current to make it work than the LEDs draw. I recently bought one on eBay for less than $5 including shipping.

Re: CROSS OVER PARTS LIST
On 3 different occaisions I have looked here for the wheel bearing numbers to cross over. I remembered seeing it posted by Old Fogey.
Then a search points me back to his wonder full "How To" here...

In an effort to help myself and others in the future here is the numbers he posted, I have checked the pieces on my '81 GL1100 and he is spot on!

As a note the 2RS suffex gets you a bearing with both sides sealed, while the OEM's were simply an RS with only one side (outer) sealed.Front wheel needs two 6302 2RS
rear Wheel needs one 6204 2RS and one 6304 2RS.
These numbers suit both the 1000 and 1100
These are readily available from any bearing distributor.

Thanks for the compliment buddy.
There is a direct link to the thread mentioned on Shop Talk.
Always check out this page for "how-to's" first. so much good stuff on there and a damned sight easier than using the site search engine!

side cover spring fix
this is not much, but...
if your springs are tired or broken on your sidecovers as one of mine was, they can be replaced with a # 28 spring and a 5/64 1/2" roll pin. cost 72 cents.

Re: CROSS OVER PARTS LIST
Just about any bike shop can order Emgo air filters (& oil filters & brake light switches & too many other parts to list) through one of the aftermarket catalogues they deal with. No minimum order, you will probably have it faster and if its wrong they deal with sending it back.

Re: CROSS OVER PARTS LIST
For the headlight, I don't know how different they are, but on my '78 I used a 75-76' CB500T headlight and bucket. It may fit your 77. It was also 50 dollars cheaper to buy that complete set then buying the GL1000 set.
The actual headlight and mountings from a 1980 CB750 will fit the '78 GL1000 bucket as well, as I used one to replace the the one on my CB500T.
As for the signal lights, the arms that hold them need to be afrom a gl1000, I'm not sure if anything else will do. But you can get new turn signals (sans arms) from partsnmore. That's where I picked mine up, they have different ones for front and back.

Re: CROSS OVER PARTS LIST
Could somebody list compatible brake master cylinders for their bikes? I am specifically looking for a front master cylinder because my reservoir looks way too bad and probably is leaking very slowly. I have seen new master cylinders at the same cost or less that of a rebuild kit for both reservoir and the master cylinder. The master cylinder sets I see though are $50 and up. I am willing to go used as long as I can confirm it will work with my '82 GL1100I. I found the master cylinder ratio chart which compares piston size from calipers to MC but it's not like these sizes are in any item descriptions I see when I am looking to purchase a MC. Any help would be much appreciated. I'm sure I am not the only one who has tried to get a better quality front master cylinder because the plastic ones cost way too much for their worth.

Re: CROSS OVER PARTS LIST
Randakk offers replacement MCs and complete brake systems. You can get replacements from Crescent Moon.
You might try a search or post your question in a new thread in the Tech Section. This has been discussed numerous times around here.

Re: CROSS OVER PARTS LIST
i would like to know is it possible to swap an1100 head onto a 1200 engine?
if so will stock parts have any affect on performance?
i.e. more or less compression etc.
sure would appreciate the info, thanks.
