rear shock interchange

#1

Post by bob »

Hi all,

My 75 has badly rusted rear shocks. I'd like to replace with progressives. Am I correct in ass-uming 76, 77 would be no problem? How about 78,79?

Thanks,

Bobbo

75-79 will bolt straight up. I have one set of progressives and they are quite stiff also with my bags (Arthur Fulmer brand) the shocks are too wide and hit the bags. They work fine on the naked bike.

I have them on my 76 and my 82. I love them. They are so much better than the former shocks on there.

I used '78 Yamaha XS1100 shocks on my '80 1100. I haven't ridden it yet so I can't say how they work but they fit and look a lot better than the rusty old air shocks. I did have to drill out the inner sleeves on the three full size ends but that was easy enough on the drill press. Just get them hot enough and they push out. Stainless washers all the way from China for $2.50 a pack (about 3 packs in two sizes) were used to achieve the proper width.
