Thanks Rebel !

PHEW.
Came back the other day
then I couldn't post for a few days
(the message I got everytime I tried to post,
was that my message was SPAM !!!!
Wattayoumean SPAM...whos bum!

Anyway; a short update:

Been away on vacation for a while;
so sorry folks, no news lately.

Anyway, came home the other night, and so I'm back here in the worksshop
so hopefully thing will start happening.

My friend Kristian, one of the guys I share the workshop with,
have been working for months on his BSA;
it involves a total engine (re)build,
parts from different bikes came together;
..piston from some other bike
..a brand new Carillo con-rod for a Vincent
..bigger and better main bearings
..lightening and re-balancing the crank
..valve gear from some other bike
..and tons of other things.
He's spend countless hours punching the calculator
to figure out stroke etc. to make it all come together

The other night he said: This is the day I'll start it for the first time!
So I made a bet with him:
I can get the engine out of the Project Wing
before you get that darn British thing started;

Image

ooooooi , that didnt take too long
(except: disengaging the output shaft
so the engine could get out of the frame
was a f****** pain
someone PLEASE tell me: what is the trick ???)

Image

here's Kristian (looking a wee bit grumpy from loosing the bet)
working on his brilliant BSA.....nope; hasn't started it yet.
We had another bet going;
will he start it that day ? (before midnight)...it was 10.50 PM

[update 11.45:] they applied air preasure to the oiltank
(something about 'priming' the oilpump to overcome an
airlock in the system caused by the anti-oil-return-valve)
...cracked the oiltank wide open...oil all over the place...URGH .-(

Ouch: it looks sooooo naked:

So yes...things are moving on here.
The plan is to paint the engine
attend to the
waterpump/new cambelts/tention rollers/
valve clearence/ignition timing...etc
Put engine back into frame;
fix a few other things
and
then I'll mount the set of carbs from one of the other bikes
and get this thing running.
I reeeeeealy have to test ride this bike.

Can't wait !!!!!!

Nice to be back!

Octane, when I removed my engine to replace the stator, probably 90% of the time it took was to get the drive shaft disconnected from the engine. It went back together much easier but you're right - getting it out was a pain. Someone must know a trick to make it easier.

Back to work!

spend aaaaaages cleaning the engine and the various parts that came off it,using every cleaning agent know to man (and some hitherto unknown)

Pictures not hosted on NGW WF

Image

opening up and looking into the engine revealed a pleasant surprise;
no sludge, no undue crud, no nasty surprises

Image

except of cause the oil strainer (and this really wasn't a surprise)
witch was full of small soft particles of clutch friction disc material

Image

finally got the engine ready for painting.
Here it is after the first few layers of paint
(the valve covers is to be stripped of the crome anyway,
so I left them on)

Image

That's it for now.
Enjoy the weekend folks !!!
