Chickened out at 5 miles Monday afternoon. had a front brake caliper sticking and had to hit it with a 2x4 I found if I used it at all. It was 1-2 deg F so pretty cold and some icy spots that I could not drive over with a sticky front caliper. Went home rather than going for medical help. . No good on the whole ride.

I have had problems with calipers sticking in cold weather over the years; In fact, I used to carry a rubber mallet in the sidecar specifically for hitting the caliper with to loosen it at one time. I have learned that it means the caliper needs to be rebuilt with NEW rubber parts, not the who knows how old ones that still look & feel OK (they aren't!!!)

That said, Eccles' disc is worn way beyond spec and its caliper does stick occasionally but so far only in the garage and kicking it with the heel of my boot frees it up and once I get going and use the brake a bit it doesn't drag. Or at least not enough to notice, which is saying something because if the front brake sticks on an outfit and you find yourself on something slippery enough to let the brake overcome available traction the wheel stops turning, the handlebars snap all the way to the right (opposite if the sidecar is on the left) and you loose the ability to make it go where you want it to. When there is fresh snow on the road you notice that before you get too far
(I have a disc & caliper ready for the next time the wheel is off)

I felt a little bit better that it was the GL500 and not my 84 wing but Definitely a total rebuild of the calipers and fork seals are in order before spring. Maybe I am getting softer or smarter in my old age. Spring is really not that far off.
