Starting to work on Runs for 2018.

So far the only thing that is firming up is Deadwood 16-18 August 2018. Currently we are looking at a decent size contingent from the East Coast to attend. In the next couple months there will be a thread dedicated to this one.

So looking to solicit Ideas and Coordinators for East or West runs. There are literally thousands of great destinations out there but the Run Coordinator is the make or break. It takes considerable effort to plan and execute a run. It is not overwhelming by any means but takes a lot of thought and commitment to pull it off.

So if you have ideas and are interested in hosting a run lets talk about it. Here in the open or if you are more comfortable via PM.

WF, August 16-18th is a Friday-Sunday. Aren't the runs typically planned for the middle of the week to allow for travel time? Just curious...

It is actually I think a Thursday through Saturday, but yes concessions were made for scheduling due to the East coast travelers. For me personally it would be minimum 4 days out and 4 days back with 3 days in the middle. From some informal conversations we are looking at 6 or 8 people from the East to attend.

Not sure how far "out east" you folks want to travel but if anyone was interested in doing the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton Nova Scotia I could do some research into lodging,etc..

Having spent extensive amounts of time in Dartmouth and Halifax and the IMP hangers up at the Airport, NS will always hold a spot in my heart. We have discussed the possibility of a Cabot Trail run before and it seemed like there just was not enough interest. It is a ride that is on my bucket list but the run to Deadwood in 18 will take all my resources for the year.

Might be best to avoid competing rides in 2018 if we want good attendance at Deadwood. Deadwood of course will have more than the average number of trailers and pickups but nothing wrong with that. We can plan more day trips for those wanting additional opportunities.

Just out of curiosity, are any of you guys doing these runs on "naked" bikes? I gotta know. Guess I know the answer - it's pretty much impossible without a chase vehicle. My '78 is good for an over-nighter only if I don't mind staying in the same underwear for a coupla days...

I can only speak for myself but I will be on my dressed 78. 90% of the time when I am traveling my luggage compartments are full of stuff for the bike. All my clothes and wash kit are in a small suitcase or duffel I use as a backrest. Having traveled with numerous of these guys before you would be amazed at what can be packed on a nekid bike. A duffel on the seat behind you and a small tank bag can provide clothes for a week or more easily.
