NGW East Run Details

#1

Post by Whiskerfish »

NGW East Location is Cooksburg/ Vowinckle area Pa 15-18 July 2013

This area is referred to as the Pennsylvania Wilds http://pawilds.com/

Registration for the Run will be $15.00 per person and can be done here: http://www.ngwclub.com/catalog/index.ph ... cts_id=196
The Registration fee will include 2 meals one "Official" Run T Shirt and a few other necessities for the gathering. The remaining meals and Lodging etc etc... are each individuals responsibility.

T shirt Design will be in another thread!

The Eastern Rally will start Monday Evening 15 July and Run through Thursday Morning 18 July. From there, those that are interested may join us at "The Jones' Hacienda" in Gahanna OH for the annual Pre-Vintage Days Barbeque on Thursday evening.

18 July Barbeque Address is
Greg Jones aka "Oldewing"
255 Amfield Court
Gahanna Ohio 43230
Time is basically late afternoon till.......

For The PA run the plan is to arrive Monday afternoon/evening 15 July and depart Thursday Morning 18 July. That gives us 2 days for group rides/ events. The run from there to Gahanna OH is only 260 miles so a nice easy ride.

The Elk Visitor Center will be one ride destination, it is located at 134 Homestead Drive, Benezette, PA 15821 Benzette is about 60 miles for the shortest route. http://elkcountryvisitorcenter.com/drupal/
Image

Drake Oil Well Museum comes highly recommended and may be a place we stop for a picnic lunch. http://drakewell.org/
Image

The Cool Spring Power Museum is another possible destination.
http://coolspringpowermuseum.org/Events.htm They just published their 2013 schedule and it does not coincide with our event but we will contact them and see if a tour is possible.
Image

The Tyred Wheels Museum is only 41 miles by the most direct route. 1164 Russell Corners Rd, Pleasantville, PA.
Image

There is a Motel and Cabins located right across the street from each other at 5516 Forest Road, Vowinckle, PA 16260 , 1/4 mile east of Route 66
This will be the base of operations for the run.

Reservations for the motel can be made by contacting Bernie at 814 927 8925. More information about the motel /restaurant here: http://cookforestcountryinn.com/
The motel/restaurant only has 8 rooms and they will be $65.00 a night. Rooms are going VERY Quickly so act immediately if you do not want to stay in a cabin.
We will be contacting the Owner to discuss Breakfast options as they are normally not open that early.

Reservations for the cabins can be made by calling Don - 440-567-4973 Kathy - 440-567-4974 or online at http://forestsedgecabins.com/about_us

As far as the cabins go, one was remodeled this past year and the second will be done this year and possibly a third. The cabins have two bedrooms, full bath and kitchen. One bedroom has a double bed, the other has bunkbeds. The price is $80.00 per night for two, $90.00 for three, and $100.00 for four.

Camping is available here: http://www.deermeadow.com/ just about 2.5 miles away from the Hotel and Cabins. There are numerous other campgrounds in the area.

July is a busy time and there is significant Gas drilling (out of town labor) in the area so many rental places are under long term contracts right now. So reservations should be made ASAP.

Clarion Pa is right at 20 miles away and there are numerous Hotels and B & B's in the area. He is one good listing http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g5236 ... otels.html

Special Thanks to Paul Gabor aka 05c50 for all his leg work and looking over these places action1 action1 action1 action1

And perhaps we can visit Punxsutawney, PA? Perhaps at the Pantall Hotel for dinning?

Gents;
Looking forward to it. I have a doctor's appointment on the 8th of February that might affect my attendance, sore shoulder that might be bone spurs and require surgery. Stay tuned . .

I have to add one other consideration, I was there before they rebuilt the bridge. Ruins are still on the valley floor.
