Ugly GL1100 Top Yoke

#1

Post by Ed_Bobber »

Hi all

New to forum and my inept searching has not turned anything up in the forum, so far.

I've just removed the digital clocks and air ride controls from my 83 GL1100 Aspencade and have uncovered the unholy mess that is the top yoke/clamp. As I'm moving over to progressive springs in the forks and won't be using the air system anymore I'd like to tidy this area up and wondered if the top yoke/clamp from the GL1100 Interstate or standard is a straight swap?

Apologies for dumb questions but just imagine the stuff I haven't asked!

Cheers, Ed

Good question. I would suspect that the forks and the frame attachments would be the same but the instrument cluster mounting would obviously be different. Need one of those 1100 guys to provide more info.

Thanks @Whiskerfish, I'll be ditching the original digital clocks anyway and going with something a little smaller so don't think that'll be an issue, it was more the offset I was worried about. Some folk on various Facebook groups have advised is a straight swap so will see how we get on.

I have stripped my 83 aspencade and installed top yoke from an 82 aspy which had the analogue gauges. This allowed me to get rid of the digital setup on the 83. I then also had to use the ignition from the 82 as the 83 aspy is a bit different in design. I now use 2 keys one from the 82 for the ignition and one from the 83 for the faux tank lock. My 82 donor bike did not have the faux tank (had been used elsewhere). I am sure that any top yolk from an 1100 that is not an 83 aspy with digital dash will work ok. My thread on stripping the bike is here:

Read though and if any ?'s will try to help.
