Well Honda calls it "final Drive ", so that works for me
1978 custom GL1000
1977 custom with 1200 engine
1985 gl1200

Maybe this forum could provide a 'Glossary' where we can register such common abbreviations so anyone can reference that to understand exactly what is being discussed. I certainly find myself puzzling sometimes over an unfamiliar and unqualified abbreviation that has been used. Something like this would help.

I always thought a differential meant a final unit that compensated for the differing speeds needed in the two rear wheels in a turn
