Longer than stock shocks?
I'm looking to increase the ground clearance on my 81 1100 and would like to find some longer / taller shocks for the rear.
13 1/2 - 14" are what I would like.
Any suggestions on where I might find some that'll fit?

Re: Longer than stock shocks?
I believe 1200 shocks are longer. Aftermarket shocks come in a variety of lengths as do the prices.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Re: Longer than stock shocks?
I never even considered 1200 shocks. I even have a pair stashed around here somewhere.

Thanks for that!
Now I won't waste time trying to find them.

1100 are eye-to-eye also. 1000’s were different. Right?

Re: Longer than stock shocks?
Well....... I found the 1200 shocks, and whaddya know , they fit right on the 1100.
Unfortunately, a seal leaks so I'm not going to use this pair.
In the end, I would rather not have air shocks on this bike, so I guess it's off to ebay.
Thank you ericheath for providing me (once again) with correct information.

If anyone’s keeping track, Cyborg’s waaaaay ahead of me on the correct info department. It is easy to cross which bike has which.

Re: Longer than stock shocks?
Cyborg, do you know if there are any longer shocks available for the 1000? I'd love to raise the height of my ride by an inch or two. If that's possible.CYBORG wrote:Sorry for the bad info,... thought you were fitting them on a 1000
So is it possible? I ask because I've got a long inseam (32 inches) plus I wanna be able to ride on rougher roads and the increased clearance would help. Thanks!

Re: Longer than stock shocks?
Not off hand. But if you go to a shock web sight I'm sure you could find something. They are usually sold by length and connection points. and weight of bike and passenger of course. Just decide how much longer you want them. Don't forget to consider the angle of the drive shaft.

Re: Longer than stock shocks?
I had some Emgos on mine that we're an inch longer. I don't have the part number anymore, but it's an easy search. Like Cyborg said earlier, be careful on length.
I don't think that non-serviceable u-joint would appreciate much more than an inch longer set of shocks. I have stock length Progressive shocks now and it's a much better ride. Progressive wound springs and multi-stage dampening would likely do more for you than increased suspension travel.
