They often seal up after a bit of running ....

Moving a little slow but getting close now. Spent most of a day tracking down wiring issues. Tail light wouldn't burn but brake light was OK finally figured out the ignition switch was bad. That was a trip getting the bad one out and the new(er) one in because of the fairing. I also had indicator lights on my dash panel but the neutral light and oil pressure would not light. Lots of puttsing around before I finally figured out that the miniature LEDs I am using are actually diodes (I said I was slow!) and current will only pass one way through them. Reversing the positive and negative leads solved that problem. Lots of little details but I might take it for a ride this week. It will be a while before I turn it over to the upholsterer.

I started the day by filling the gas tank. Any one ever reassemble the petcock wrong? Well, just in case you haven't, it will leak, a lot. The tension ring goes between the housing and the part with the handle. Not between the rubber part and the part with the handle. Now that I have that off my chest, lets move on. (PLEASE,I hear from the audience)
After I got the gasoline all back in the tank, I started it up and backed out of the shop. I intended to take it down to the end of the road and back. I made it to the end of the drive (and back). No front brake. Must have introduced some air when relocating the reservoir. Clutch was barely releasing. Cable too long or more likely clutch disks worn out. I trimmed the fairing to clear the fork tubes but not enough when a rider is on board. Hard to steer. No big deal, easy to fix (and easy to mess up.)
Still leaking oil apparently from weep hole. A lot of oil. Rat, I don't think this one is going to seal up by itself, unfortunately.
Probably the biggest problem is the test rider is too old and stiff to get his feet on the pegs, let alone use the rear brake. Rear sets might help but not that much. I knew this would be a problem and since I was just planning on flipping the bike, I wasn't too concerned about comfort (for me) but this is a bit much, don't know if I can actually ride it enough to feel comfortable turning it over to anyone else.
I will say it sounds mean with open pipes, and looks all business. Too early to tell if cylinder number 4 will improve its' compression. Well, onward and upward.

Possibly increasing the thickness of the seat padding a couple of inches might make a bit more room ??
Sorry about the water pump ....

Seat padding will certainly make it more comfortable and maybe straighten my legs out a bit as well, but I don't think that will be enough for me to comfortably reach the rear brake and shifter. Plus, as my butt comes up my head goes down, my neck is not very limber either. I am meditating on rear sets. Or ape hangers. Or hiring a 15 year old for a test rider.
I opened up the fairing around the forks and spent some time organizing the cables and wires that pass through the fairing in hopes of reducing friction. My fancy new chrome digital tach arrived all the way from China. Cool, looks like it belongs on a dragster. Not sure it will work though, so I haven't drilled any holes yet. The potential problem is that it switches from 4 to 6 to 8 cylinders. Even though the Wing has four cylinders it has what is essentially a two cylinder ignition system. Hope I am wrong, but if not I guess I can always divide the reading by 2.

Connected the digital tach today (how I wish the Chinese used American/Japanese color coding of wires) Green to the coil, black to ground and red to switched power. It works but as I suspected registers incorrectly. Registers not twice as I thought but only half the RPMs. I think I can live with that. (it does look cool!)
While running it to connect the tach, I checked out the oil leak as carefully as I could while it was up high on the table. Seems the oil is coming from the top of the transmission cover on the left side (riders left). It is too much oil to ignore so I pulled the radiator and trans cover. Nothing obvious except for a considerable amount of sludge. The gasket was a green material, almost plastic. I haven't seen one like that before. The good thing was it came off easily but maybe wasn't sealing well. The O-rings don't look all that good either. I can't detect any play in the water pump shaft but there was a little bit of gray oil (mixed with water) around the water pump shaft at the rear.
I will replace all the O-rings and the gasket, but I don't think it will be necessary to replace the water pump.

Before cleaning, lots of sludge in the bottom but otherwise not bad.
