The soak opened it up. After that, i started with a wire brush bristle. Cleaning the orifice clogged the hole again, more carb cleaner opened the hole enough for me to get my two smallest welding tip cleaners through it.

Pretty typical looking condition. Glad it cleaned up fairly easily...

Re: 1982 Interstate Drag Queen
Took her out for a test drive and the brakes are fixed. Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately about a mile out on the way back the fuel pump gave out. I'm glad it was close to home. I recall a "whoosh' pressure release sound when I remove the gas cap. To be honest I thought it was normal for the system to be pressurized. After some reading I'm thinking the cap vents are clogged and caused the pump to fail. I've read a Seafoam soak should remedy the clogged vent issue and while it's down waiting on the pump I may as well give it a vinegar bath and pretty it up. Any suggestions on the pump? I'm seeing new OEM fuel pumps for around $90. I have read rebuilding the pump is a pain . Do any of you have an opinion on the aftermarket electric pumps, is there a high performance option out there?

Re: 1982 Interstate Drag Queen
The petcock is leaking. I'll replace it with new. The rebuild kit is almost as much as a new petcock. While I was tearing it apart I found this universal filter installed. I have a NAPA Gold 3011 I was planning on using as a replacement. The universal does fit well in the bracket and the chrome and glass look so sexy!

It is normal. Especially when the outside temp is warm. And when the tank is lower on fuel. The cap has a one way valve. Let's air in but not out.Fat6 wrote:snip............... Robin, you don't think the cap is bad then?

New pump, petcock and a roll of 1/4" SS braided fuel line are ordered and with any luck will be here by the end of the week.
That gives me sometime for something fun rather than maintenance work. Neon coil mod here we come.

Can't be certain since I'm not there when it is opened. All I can say is how the vent works. Wouldn't hurt to clean it in vinegar or something. I've had the cap almost jump off when removing it to pump gas in when it's hot.

Mine does this a lot, I always thought it's from the cold mornings/hot daytime/cool evenings that we often have up here.robin1731 wrote:Fat6 wrote:Robin, you don't think the cap is bad then?

Just guessing that you posted the pics with an I Product. If so, you need to "edit" the pictures in your I Product so that they orient the way you want them posted.
If I look at your pictures with an IPhone or IPad, the pictures are correctly oriented. If I use my work computer (which I am on now) to view your pictures, they show up sideways, and upside down.'

Neon coil is wired and the bracket bracket is fabricated.
