Wow! My family treats me like a god for refurbing my Gl1000. But what I did in a couple of years of fumbling you obviously could do in a weekend. All the best, I'll be watching.

While I had things apart, I put in new steering bearings and swing-arm bearings. Built some tools for that.

I've watched this progress, but just saw it up close a wk ago. Pretty cool. Runs like a top!

Little story on the bike and how Terry got it. I bought this bike off a local ad on CL - I think it was the same day it posted.
I said whoa! a 75 - I jumped on it. Rode it home. I had it about a month iirc bought a few parts for it, did the aux lighting box jumper and decided I already had my hands full(3 other GL's). It had that seat on it but the guy I bought it from had the original wrapped up in a bag - looked to me like it would have the day they brought it home from the dealer! Only had 23k something on the odo. I think I was the 3rd short lived owner.

One day I was looking on the other GL site and just happened on an ad in the "for sale" column. "looking for a 75 (or 76) GL". I wasn't quite ready to sell but thought well what the heck this person is probably in Michigan but maybe they'll buy it and have it shipped. Turns out T lived about 30 miles away. Amazing. I contacted him and a few days later the bike was in Terry's garage. Oh and I'm lucky - he's a friend and is more than willing to help me out with my bike and other stuff. He's a very good woodworker too! He does let me return the favor which is good. Thanks Dog for the internet.
1978GL1000 naked - kinda sadly gone. no bike at the moment.

I'd drilled the disc rotors earlier. Time to chip out the wheel paint mounting the tires.

Switch covers were all painted and so needed to be disassembled for blasting and paint. I rewired them with lighter gauge wire (relays...remember?). I had to make my wires reach the shelter for connectors. Needed lots of pictures to know how to put them back together.

Wiring the dash was difficult. Very limited space, 17 input wires. An unpleasant sidenote here: After I got this thing assembled and installed, the neutral LED burned out. It was the most difficult to get to. I had to remove everything to get to it. It took 3 whole days to fix. Bad design I'd say. But in my defense, I was working in tight quarters.

I love wood working. Don't have a large enough to do it much any more. But I did just over running the tips of the last two fingers on my right hand thru the tip of the blade on my table saw. Still a little sensitive . Been sticking to working on bikes lately. safer....
