Need Shorter Cables for '78 GL1000 with Shorter Handlebars
I just resurrected a '78 GL1000 with 39,000 miles. I needed shorter bars with a different angle, so I used some off of a '73 CB450 I had laying around. Made for a great riding position, but my cable are now about 4" too long. For now I have fixed it with some nasty looking, but effective, cable routing. With the vast amount of knowledge I see on this site, surely someone knows of a set of stock cables for another model that would work here. Any ideas?

Iv been pondering this for a while on my 1983 GL1100 and I think (not confirmed) that a CX500 or CB900 (not the modern one) cables would be the right length

Might be easier and quicker to order special length cables from Motion-Pro. Check out their website.

Re: Need Shorter Cables for '78 GL1000 with Shorter Handlebars
I tried shortening my original throttle cables with a barrel kit from napa and it worked! But the cables were looking pretty wore out so I ordered custom length cables from motion pro, I found that a cb650 clutch cable fit good except the the cable end that fits into the bar lever adjuster was smaller than the gl cable so I found an old cable with the same diameter as the gl cable, removed it, cut a slot thru it and fit it over the cb650 cable....works good, good luck

I've used the gas cable from a silverwing, fits perfect with the low handlebars

Thanks guys. I got a quote from Motion Pro, but Silverwing throttle cables sound like they'll get the job done. Moto Nut, did the wire rope in the CB650 cable appear to be the same diameter as the one in the Goldwing cable?
