I've Googled, but I can't for the life of me find the Regulation/Law that states you're allowed to paint your license plate. All I ever find is "you may not alter, deform, or destroy in any way...."

I'm not criticizing you, just curious because I'd LOVE to paint mine. Do you know where I can look to find the legalities? (Being from Texas and all.)
No criticism taken.
Maybe I should rewrite it. I'm sure there is nothing in print that says you can paint your own license plate.

I've never been stopped for my plate and when I have been stopped, the color was never called into question.

This is how it worked for me.
When renewing my registrations I applied for the 5yr inspection cycle (our bikes are antiques). When I went to the
counter I asked in lieu of a new plate could I use a vintage plate. The answer was ''yes, do you have it with you"
I presented the embossed plate(s), one had to be searched because it wasn't in my name. The color was never mentioned.
The first time I did it was with 'Sparky. I reg'strd with the old white & black plate embossed. I then painted it (I was willing to take my chances). Second time around when I asked to keep it instead of a new plate. I showed the plate and it was renewed with same number.
Try it the worst they can say is no.
I guess a good question would be, what color are you going to paint it?

HOTT
That's interesting, and good to know. I bought a 1983 Motorcycle Texas plate on Ebay, I wonder if they'd balk at trying to use it for my 1978...
In Indiana no. Best place to get the correct information is your local DMV/BMV.

How are the Strombergs working? Looks like a good 0.025"between the tank and carb body. Looks great.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

All this fawning is making me ill ....

OK .... OK ....its a nice bike .... the headlight and guage finally look PERFECT .... I would like a small front fender to carry the colour scheme forward before I nominate it for bike of the month - year - and a new category "BIKE OF THE CENTURY .... the only competition in the latter catagory is Octane's Bulldog .... and the CYBORG ....
