Love the whole thing, makes so much sense. Great looking job you've put together.

Re: Always trying new things.. Motogadget M-Unit
More rain, more progress.
Here is the m-unit mounted in the battery frame mounted in the bike frame.. .
I started running the lighting wiring to the unit, and decided to go with junction boxes rather than splices and electrical tape. Problem is, when you live in Bumf##k, you can't just find things at the store. So a little improvising was needed. I found some nifty joiner strips which could be jumpered. You can also snap off as many as you need. As you can see, I first put the jumpers in, then in the next picture, snapped a few off and epoxied them into a configuration I wanted.
There is also a self explanatory picture showing how to make cables with ferrule ends that will not fray or wear with time, and will make a great connection when screwed down in the M-unit and junction boxes. Plus, it makes your wiring look cool.
The junction in the black box has 16 amps delivered from the auxiliary output of the M-Unit. It will power the fan (5A Max), instrument lights, (.5A LED) fuel pump (2.5A), and ignition (3A). This leaves plenty in case I forgot something.
The beehive junction box is how I will split the front/rear turn signals and indicator lights, and the tail/headlight. The three circuits will receive their power directly from the M-unit,be split at the beehive junction, and sent to their respective tasks.
That's all for now. Tomorrows forecast calls for more rain, so expect a progress report tomorrow night.

Love it when a plan comes together. These GWs can have a lot of unnecessary wiring, relays and the likes. We also have to remember that technology has come so far. I remember my first computer hard drive install. 40 MB for $400.00, you can now buy a 128 GB USB stick for $29.00 CDN.
I wonder how much cleaner the wiring would be for my '85 Limited Edition with this unit. That's for another day, have to get the one I bought in December going first.
Great Job.
Cheers

Re: Always trying new things.. Motogadget M-Unit
Hey sunbob, may I ask , did you feel somewhat significant resistance when pushing the crimped ferrule into the Munit??.... there seems to be a thin little "blade" of metal in the way....that isn't supposed to be removed is it???

Re: Always trying new things.. Motogadget M-Unit
Hey RTccp,
yes I did. It goes a little easier with dielectric grease (which they recommend). However, that said, I did not have to remove the little piece of metal. just pushed firmly. I was able to get a 16 Gauge wire into the aux ouput, it took some pushing.. I think that little piece of wire is designed to dig into the wire a little bit.

That's AWESOME...nice and neat...my only issue so far has been the "one " wire neutral lite....because it grounds through the switch itself...unfortunately I'm running a "two" wire LED bulb to indicate when I'm in neutral so I'm struggling a bit trying to figure it out....but I'm plugging away at it...NP

Same here, haven't addressed the neutral circuit yet, or the clutch disconnect.

Re: Always trying new things.. Motogadget M-Unit
that's pretty easy. Wire the pos. side direct to power when key is on. And the other side to the ground created when the neutral sw is grounded. Ground is thru the neutral swrtccp wrote:That's AWESOME...nice and neat...my only issue so far has been the "one " wire neutral lite....because it grounds through the switch itself...unfortunately I'm running a "two" wire LED bulb to indicate when I'm in neutral so I'm struggling a bit trying to figure it out....but I'm plugging away at it...NP

Pretty much the same thing. The sw just completes a circuit to ground

Re: Always trying new things.. Motogadget M-Unit
Not much to report. Just continuing to wire and hook things up. Heraldhamster dropped by today. Good to see him back on two feet. As I move along, I'm finding the wiring of the GL to be less mysterious than I originally feared. Once the harness is unwrapped and all the wires traceable, it becomes much clearer. Turn signal, headlight, taillight and brake light systems now operable. Replacing most of the wire in the ignition circuit now.
