Re: GL1100 Flat Tracker
The tires arrived 7/28,the tubes got lost in Henderson CO,they arrived 8/18 and were installed about 15 min later!
Got it off the table, hooked up a gas tank and started it! It would run about 5-10 seconds at too many rpm(maybe 3-4000) and then quit. I retightened all the clamps and bolts, didn't make much difference, somewhere in my homemade system there must be a gargantuan vacuum leak! Pulled the Quadrajet, installed a known set of 1100 carbs --all is well! It starts instantly, runs well with just a tiny bit of cold-bloodedness.No knocks, rattles, one tiny oil leak at the water pump weep hole which will heal itself(already has after maybe 4-5 miles of test rides). Remember this is an unknown engine put together by a gentleman in California several years ago. I think he did a great job! It's an 1100 with 75 cams and heads. The exhausts were too loud,so I bought some 1 3/4 X 4" baffles, welded two together end-to-end and installed them in front of the shorties. It's pretty civilized now. It's sorta finished(are they ever?) at least it looks pretty much like it's going to look. I had to shorten both the side and center stands probably has something to do with the 17" wheels? One person and the gas station and several at the car show Saturday instantly knew it was a flat tracker so we accomplished that part. Our competition in the "custom" class at the car show was a bunch of stock Harleys with fancy paint jobs and they only award 2 places. So here are the much awaited pictures!

Re: GL1100 Flat Tracker
Looks great. Long wait. It remains to be seen if my 1100 with 76 cams will run as nice. right now it has no mufflers so I am getting a lot of popping when I come off the throttle.
Your reference to the car show parallels mine from a couple of years ago. Only one winner in the custom class, a bone stock but much chromed Big Dog chopper.

Re: GL1100 Flat Tracker
A Q-jet floatbowl is only about as big as ONE standard GW carb, and the bike plumbing is smaller. Sounds like you're emptying it as soon as it starts.

Gonna try the Quadra jet again later? Bike looks great.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Re: GL1100 Flat Tracker
I think I ordered the same mufflers as you have installed here. Where did you pick up the baffles?

Re: GL1100 Flat Tracker
Anything is possible at this point but I'm thinking' if a big block Chevy doesn't empty it in 5 seconds that would be a pretty big order for an 1100?Shadowjack wrote:A Q-jet floatbowl is only about as big as ONE standard GW carb, and the bike plumbing is smaller.
