Progress report: It warmed up so I put the "Tracker" up on the table to work on the oil leak from the weep hole under the water pump. So while it was up I put the Quadrajet back on it. It ran but only for short periods and at uncontrollable rpm. It acted exactly like a really big vacuum leak! I checked everything, tightened and re-tightened the clamps, mounting bolts etc. Tweaked the idle air screws, finally it would run, sort of. The carb ran ok on a 350 Chevy so I'm pretty sure it wasn't the main problem. Then I did the smart thing,I took it off and re-installed a set of stock carbs.Stars instantly runs good! It had a small problem before, it stumbles when accelerating hard around the mid rpm range. I have an 1100 air cleaner on it cut down to just the bottom part. The 1100 air box won't fit in the 1000 shelter. Anybody out there have a 1000 air box they're not using?
