Re: Dark GreenWing 1977
Rear wheel coming together! I had a small issue figuring out what these bushing were on the original rim and where I could get them:
Turns out their is no part number at all and getting them out seemed impossible without damaging them entirely. So, after posting in the tech discussions, Cyborg mentioned he has encountered the same problem and using some auto urethane bushings would do the trick!
With a little sanding and pressure I was able to get these bushings into place and even drill out the center a bit to get the drivetrain bolts in snug as well! Next step is getting the bearing in and itll be good to go!

Well done. Exactly What I did. I think you will notice It helps tighten up the power transfer. I also noticed smoother take off's in first gear. That might be some of the other mods

Re: Dark GreenWing 1977
When I rebuilt my rear wheel I looked at replacing those as well since everything else was new, but after not finding stock replacements I decided they were in good enough shape to keep. This is a good tip tho, I’ll have to remember it for down the road

Super good tip. How did you take out the old pushing? do you have a part number for those red ones? i could not find this tech topic.

As far as getting the old bushings out... I didnt even get to that stage. I have a new, bare rim so I was trying to see if I could reuse or find new ones. But they seemed EXTREMELY difficult to get out! As far as a part number for the red bushings I have, I bought these at Oreilly's Auto store and these were the only ones they had. I would have liked to have gotten longer ones, BUT these seem to be just fine and it's not like the bolts go all the way down any ways! Just need the first 1/4-1/2 inches on the top and youre good!

Yeah! If I were able to reuse the bushing from the original hub, I would have probably used them, BUT this seems to be a solid alternative! I'm a little nervous with it not having a metal sleeve on the inside that the originals have, but they seem snug enough and the urethane material is strong enough that it shouldn't be a problem (fingers crossed!).Hanslehoff wrote:When I rebuilt my rear wheel I looked at replacing those as well since everything else was new, but after not finding stock replacements I decided they were in good enough shape to keep. Re: Dark GreenWing 1977
I was able to get the rear bearing retainer off today. The thing was gunked up and chipped so I knew a brand new one was in need. I also needed that center piece inside the wheel hub for the new rim and getting the bearings off was INSANELY difficult. Pretty much ended up ruining the original wheel hub to get it out!
Had to make a specialty tool with a 1 5/16" socket and angle grind it down to fit the holes for the retainer. Was able to get it loosened up and out easily afterwards! Sadly... the bearings I got we wayyy too small, so the new rear wheel will have to wait a few more days!
Done for the day.. Now back to cleaning/organizing the mess I made in the garage!

Re: Dark GreenWing 1977
Made some pretty bit progress on the bike the past couple of weeks.
NEW FIBERGLASS SEAT!!!
Their was always a gap in the original seat that I had and it always did kind of nag at me. So I figured I would give making my own fiberglass seat a try! Definitely intimidating to do, but overall, wasnt as hard as I thought it would be.
First step was making off the original seat and adding the desired add-ons to fill in the gap:
^^^ The cardboard ended up making this nice V going down the center once it was all said and done, I'm hoping to keep this V with the fiberglass work as well.

Re: Dark GreenWing 1977
Allright! I have my new fiberglass seat complete! It has cured overnight and I popped it out of the mold this morning! Overall, it turned out great! Took my angle-grinder and trimmed the edges off, fit it onto the seat pan and its is looking great! The awkward gap in GONE!
I'll just need to sand it down, use a little bondo to really smooth it out and itll be ready for paint!

Honestly, not as bad as you would think! I was definitely intimdiated by it, but overall it was pretty easy. Definitely need patience, and in would recommend cutting the fiberglass sheets to small sections before hand, but you'd knock it out! Took about 3-4 hrs =)Hanslehoff wrote: that is above and beyond what I’d be willing to tackle, nice work

Re: Dark GreenWing 1977
Got the front and rear brackets for the front fender done these past couple of days. I had the front brackets done, but looking at them head on, they weren't even and it was just a bad profile look, so I went back at it! They turned out really good in the end with the rears matching up and most importantly the front brackets matching up! I ordered a bunch of bolts and what not that should be here by Saturday and I will get it fully mocked up before paint. ALMOST THERE!!!
One final thing I have to get done is making my own stoppers on the lower triple-tree, shouldn't be too crazy to get done, but I think we have all said that before! Once that is done, it'll be time to paint AGAIN!

Re: Dark GreenWing 1977
Looking real good! Can’t wait to see it with paint.
You might be aware of this...but your front brake line is upside down. The short portion should run from the MC to the splitter. The splitter is bolted to the front of the lower triple tree and then the two longer lines run to each caliper. The stock CBR lines were too short for my set up so I ended up running a dual banjo bolt on the MC and a separate line to each front caliper

You have a serious good eye! I did just thrown them on quickly so they weren't dangling in the photo, the adjustment will be made!Hanslehoff wrote: You might be aware of this...but your front brake line is upside down. The short portion should run from the MC to the splitter.
