Re: Dark GreenWing 1977
Something that was bothering me last night was this gap the front brackets had against the fender. Literally couldn't fall asleep because it was annoying me so much! Haha
So I took a little heat to the tip, made it a little softer to work with and hammered it down. Here is the difference from the original bracket to the newer bracket:
AND it smoothed it out ALOT more! Still a little space, but i think it is much better now.

Re: Dark GreenWing 1977
Welp, like many of my great ideas,I got it late at night...
I was thinking about the completely unused empty space that the fiber glass had under the cowl. A lot of cafe's usually put the battery under there, but I dont see that happening with mine. But I was thinking about what could I possibly use all that space for?
This was the "structure" that I made to secure the fiberglass to the seat pan. This was not done with a lot of thought, and it shows, but it did the job that it needed to do.
I was looking at the mounting areas that I had and I wanted it to be a bit smoother on the top end AND most importantly keep the mounting areas nice and even! So I made this new top end while cutting away A LOT of the lower metal structure:
THEN it was the decision to make another storage compartment in this area. I made a metal box and trimmed it to fit in the proper place. I will later bolt in onto the flat middle area of the seat pan =).
The next step will actually be cutting the cowl open, putting some hinges on the top end and I am thinking for the "open and close" mechanism, I'll be using a black Quick Latch System mechanism. Any tips are always welcome! But I think it is already looking MUCH better on that rear side!

That’s a great idea! There’s nothing in that space on the back of mine and it’s kind of a waste

Re: Dark GreenWing 1977
This bike has been a tribute build for my grandpa who used to ride GoldWings, so today I got the top of the tank professionally pinstriped. I absolutely love how it turned out! In the sun it really pops! In the shade it definitely calms down too.

I'm digging your work here Cody! About to start a similar project on my 77 and have a question for you. Was handling the main reason to switch away from the clip ons? David

Hey Farmerloom! Yeah, I do have to admit, while I REALLY like the way the bike looks with clip-ons, the bike felt a bit shakier with them that low. I went with the clip-ons with a 2.5 inch rise, figured I have riden a GL1000 with drag bars and it felt fine, so this should be enough height on it =).Farmerloom wrote:I'm digging your work here Cody! Re: Dark GreenWing 1977
Hey everyone! Sorry for being M.I.A. for a bit now. Figuring out the "hidden compartment" has been a pain in the butt!
The mufflers I have had on the bike were good, but they never were "perfect" for me. And after looking around and around, I discovered these mufflers on ebay that I figured, "why not" and gave them a shot! They are a solid length, somewhere around 19-20 inches long.
I just got them today and I am SUPER surprised with quality of the mufflers! They are a thick steal, and the powder coat feels really good (not cheap or thin like others I've seen).
I haven't heard them yet on the bike, but I'm expecting something with some decent noise because I see absolutely no sound dampening ANYTHING, haha. We'll see!!!

Re: Dark GreenWing 1977
I originally put straight, open pipes on mine, but they were just too loud for my taste. I then made some baffles and inserted them, made it perfect for what I wanted.

I haven't heard them on the bike yet, but I can see myself doing JUST that in the future! They look like they'll be PRETTY loud, and while uni like a good growl, I dont need any "noise" tickets, haha.BikeMaine wrote:I originally put straight, open pipes on mine, but they were just too loud for my taste. The sheriff of my county rides a Harley with open pipes. Nobody here gets tickets for a loud bike that I know of.
