codyjames707 wrote:Yes! Exactly what I was thinking, definitely some drag bars and a solo seat set up. I'm not too much of a fan of how much larger the tank is, I'm almost wondering if the 75-77 tanks could also go on it to replace it, I don't really care for the extra gauges either.
Helping to get this back on topic, what color are the panels on the '78? I can't tell from the pictures if they are black or the weird rootbeer color like mine.

Haha, thank you! They're the black and gold trim panels. Little scuffs on them, but in general, still in great condition! I was really surprised with this buy for how good a lot of the parts are. Carbs need some tuning, a new battery, and rear brake needs to get attached, but other than that it's great!

Hey guys! I haven't been doing too much work as of late.

Pretty much getting small parts ready and with me being a teacher, finishing these past two weeks and I have all summer off till mid August! That being said, I figured while I had the gas tank off and rust was apparent of it, I stripped the paint off the outside, cleaned it off and also de-rusted the fuel sensor since it was COVERED in rust. Quick and easy striping the paint off, will be applying some primer and semi-gloss black enamel to it soon!

Haha, they inside needs some cleaning as well, but afterwards, should be one clean gas tank that I won't have to worry about for years to come!

Hey guys! I've finally gotten some huge steps going on with this bike! I was able to do a REALLY expensive paint job on the gas tank with some quality Auto Zone urethane spray paint! Haha, a few coats put on it, and it doesn't look too bad!

I was able to get the gas tank put in and then I made the large front and rear installation. The 1978 had seals replaced, and I like the chrome front end, so I moved it to my 1977 bike. I also took the rear drive shaft with it being cleaner and moved it to the 77 as well. It is finally starting to look like a motorcycle! :crosso

As you can see I am also doing a clip on bars set-up and headlight brackets

While I don't hate the 78 rims, I have my preference for spoked rims, so while installing the rear I went ahead and switched the rims out.

Hey 77GoWing! Im a high school Art teacher. I'm hoping to see if it starts tmrw when the new battery comes in! I actually had a pretty major issue happen this Thursday. I filled the 77 motor up with coolant and it started leaking on the botTom. I tried tightening the bolt and BOOM! The 3.5 inch bolt broke off DEEP in the engine block. crying1
Lucky me?
Without a bolt extractor long enough, I just switched the 78 engine into its place instead. Took a looooong time to change it by myslef and I am REALLY bummed I'm loosing the kick start ability with 78 motor, but I want this thing moving! Hope to see how this thing moves tmrw. If it runs, then I can really put some money in to make it look right!

PROGRESS!

A lot of little things getting done here between some vacation time as well. After putting the '78 motor in place for the '77 motor, replacing the fuel tank, and discovering the ground wire on the wire harness wasn't secure, I used the 4 carb set up and it started right up! Even after coming back from a 10 day vacation and it starts with no problems! I have to get the brakes set up (I heard those are important) and it will be ready to test ride! Once I know its moving well, then I can start REALLY cleaning up some parts and putting some $$$ into paint. As of right now though... Feeling good! dancr

She's coming together great! I remember how excited I was to hit the starter button and actually here mine ruin after being in pieces for 6 months. Congrats on the milestone, it definitely gives you a kick in the butt to keep going and get everything else done

If you ever have the motor out again and want the kick start feature, ( It has saved me a few times) you can pull the back cover from your 77 and install it on your 78. Option is also there to swap 77 cams in. If you have 75-77 carbs, they'll probably be happier using the 77 cams.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Definitely Hanslehoff! Now that I know this
Thing can move, it is time to really get this thing dialed in! Shortening the cables and brakes are top priority and a cafe seat is coming in soon!
