I'm getting close to having this registered and on the road. Too nice to have it in the garage.

But I need a seat,.... So.
I made this seat pan, cut it out of 3/16"

Welded this front bracket I made and tacked on a couple bolts for the rest of the seat.

I then pop riveted some leather around the bottom edge of the pan.

I got this foam out of a snowmobile seat. I used some spray adhesive (3M super 77) to glue it on. I rough shaped it with an electric meat carving knife, then finished it up with a right angled grinder.

Then I stitched the leather on.
When I finished, there was to much slack leather up the center. So I sliced out a section and stitched it up the center like a football.

I still need shocks and progressive fork springs. Also need to hide some wires. She rides really nice.

Forgot to add, I built some baffles for the straight pipes. They quieted it down, but it still has a great throaty sound to it.
Here is a pic of the baffles.

Duct tape. A lot of guys throughout the world use duct tape, no matter what the application may be. It's a guy thing, no?
If there is one thing I have learned throughout this process it is this: Check your respirator for spiders before you put it on.

I realize that header tape can promote rust in the pipes after a few years, but to replace these straight pipes will be ridiculously easy.

I feel that for me, the added benefit of the look out-weighs having to replace them someday.

Pipe cost less than $10 and I welded them on in about 20 minutes.

I'm planning on wrapping my headers back to the bagger mufflers I'm putting on mine...I'm just going to get one of the inexpensive "titanium" looking rolls off Amazon. If you search for "exhaust wrap" you can check out the reviews from people who have actually used it, and that might help you decide. I figure if it fades in a couple years, I'll just paint it (or do it again...it's not that expensive). None of the wraps out there actually have titanium in them from what I've read, that's just a name someone came up with to market it...AFAIK, they're all just fiberglass. I wouldn't worry about the rusting thing...unless you store your bike outside and they're constantly soaked, I wouldn't think it's much of an issue. Whatever moisture is in it will evaporate from the heat very quickly when you ride, so as long as it's stored dry I can't imagine it would be any more rust prone than any other part of the bike. Painting under it might not be a bad idea, provided the paint can take the heat.

I don't think they rust as much as you'd think. If you just remember to let it run a bit if they got wet, it doesn't take long at that temp to dry out.

I just love the look, ever since I was a kid reading my father's old Rod & Custom magazines in the late 60s and 70s.

My new Progressive fork springs and rear coil shocks came today. I got them all installed easily.

I made this custom socket to fit my fork caps. As most of you know, the 1982 GL1100s do not have a nut on top.
