Brother that's looking awesome! If I were you I'd leave it just like that, no top box.
You still gonna wrap your pipes? Will look good IMO
Enjoy your Ohio ride!!

I soaked this in water for 2 days and I wore gloves. It was a real pain.Buli wrote:When i did my one and first wraps i did not read any instructions. I don't like the steel clamps that come with the wrap. Very difficult to get tight.

Looks good! I was wondering how well those clamp things work...I'm wondering if there's some other clamp out there that would work well and look good. Worm clamps would be an obvious choice, but certainly lack something in the aesthetics department .BikeMaine wrote:I soaked this in water for 2 days and I wore gloves. On mine, I have to clamp the connection from the flex pipe to the HD muffler with a muffler clamp...I'm thinking I'll just use HD clamps and hide the wrap under that, but that still leaves the header end to tie off. If you come up with another solution, keep us posted...

No personal experience with pipe wrap but I have seen copper wire used and just twisted tight. It looked good and the twisted part can be concealed behind the pipes.

Hmmm...I just might give that one a try...I was thinking about maybe using a few wraps of piano wire or something that wouldn't be noticeable, but that sounds like it would be easier and probably better looking.Easter wrote:No personal experience with pipe wrap but I have seen copper wire used and just twisted tight. I've used the wrap with the supplied clamps with very good success.

Re: My naked MAINE-WING build.
I tend to over build and over tighten everything. I feel like I didn't get these tight enough, although they're staying where I left them..... I'm positive that I could get a standard plastic zip tie a whole lot tighter than these things. Maybe there's a trick to pulling them tight, I don't know. I've never used these before and no instructions of any kind came with them. After putting them on the pipe, I grabbed the tag end with vice groups and pulled while dad held the little lock from rising around the pipe with a flat screw driver.robin1731 wrote:I've used the wrap with the supplied clamps with very good success.

Is there a better way?

Re: My naked MAINE-WING build.
I'm busy with a wrap too and gave up trying to get those stainless ties tight. They seem to slip a few mm before they bite so they end up just too loose for my liking.
I used thin stainless wire in the end. I like it, I think that's how it used to be done anyway....
