'53 Studebaker? Just joking. No clue, but it looks good. Guarenteed to draw a crowd.

The cowling reminds me of something I have seen on a enduro-type bike? Yamaha or Suzuki is what I am thinking.

It is a CX500 one, I cut the indicator ears off and smoothed it all in.

I did it cos I knew it would look good and that my CX500 hating mates would curl up and die that I did it!

Wow. Nice recycling job. Not being intimately familiar with the CX500, I "googled" the images and one thing immediately became apparent. There must not be many surviving original examples. Practically every image that popped up was either a "bobber" or a "cafe racer".

I finally found the cowling on a survivor.

As you can see in my pics, I have one of those cheap chinese speedo/rev counter things. Its all working well apart from the rev counter bit. I know I have to wire it to one of the four wires from the pulse coil/pickup (No.45 in this wiring diagram).

On my '81 it is on the back of the engine, inboard from the stator. There is a four wire plug under the battery side cover, right next to the stator wire plug.

I spliced my Acewell's tach sensor into the positive wire to one of the coils.. On my 75 those wires are either solid yellow or blue with a yellow stripe. The wires on the opposite side of the coils is are black with a white stripe. Not sure if this is a help at all to you, but I found it much easier to splice in by the coil itself

I found it, thanks chaps. Now to trace it forward to the spark units.

I guess these must be near the coils?

Are you looking for the coils, or the spark units? The spark units are under the shelter, on the left side as you sit on the bike.
