Customising my first Goldwing

#1

Post by UK_Andy »

So I bought a WingDing and promptly discovered I hate the fairing and top box so they have to go. Now I wanna custom it a little and I can't decide wether to go this route or the Brat/bobber look.

What I have noticed is that I don't like the vague feeling from the front end, but that kinda went the other day when I took the screen of the fairing.

I wanna keep it simple as my custom skills come down to unbolting and bolting a different bit on, although doesn't have to come from the same bike

It looks like you 'Wing is a 1200 ..... if so it has air assisted shocks on the front ..... try adding a little air ..... use a bicycle pump as too much air is bad ..... add a little at a time til you get where you like it.

Also has an anti dive feature on the front forks, four positions with one being the softest and four the hardest ......

well for starters i think you're going to need a different seat if you ever hope to reach the foot controls.

My son Zephaniah (5) was climbing all over it. The law in the UK says that to be pillion all is required is that his feet reach the pegs. I could make higher pegs but they would have to be at the top of the side boxes by the lid.

Welcome to the forum, there are many things you can do, easier to have it stripped down then build it the way you like.

83 is a good platform, imo.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

so far as i know the laws are about the same here in the US, at least in california.

a vertically challenged friend of mine wore a pair of boots with huge platforms on them so she could reach the ground. the profile of the boot still allowed for very good toe/shifter placement.. what i'm saying is you could extend your son's shoes instead of making new foot pegs?! (only slightly serious)

Good luck on the fairing removal. There is a ton of work to do when you remove it. Had mine off twice in the last two weeks. For the time being i changed the back of the bike and seat
