Wog's Adventure Bike build

Post by wog »

Just a couple things to tidy up on the Wild Child bike, so here goes....

The '78 wrecked will be the victim.

This one was actually "running when parked". lolol lolol lolol

Picked it up from a local towing company with signed over title for $150.

Like the last build, no real purpose except to have fun with the build and riding it.
Won't be a true adventure bike, as I don't plan on spoked wheels, rear mono shock, etc.
Besides, where I live there are no mountains. I think the highest elevation around is a hill in a local park, maybe 40ft above sea level. :IDTS:

I lived in Colorado for 10 years, would have been GREAT out there.
Great to keep these old 'Wings flying on down the road.

The way it looks now, after borrowing things for other bikes.

And the tires are the only thing I've purchased to get started.

When I ordered it, didn't know it was one of those tires that seem to have the rotation of the tread backwards. :IDTS:
Down the road, I may change out to a GL1200 front end with the Trac system and a 16" wheel, so maybe changing it to the "right" way.

Here's the inspiration....

If you want some clearance, get a v65 Magna or Sabre front end 83-87??? They were 41 mm forks just like 1200's. If you get the whole front you can use it along with the gl1200 triple trees. They must have 5-7-9 inches more length as they were after the chopper style then. You could lift the back with longer shocks a little, but not much as the ujoint can't take a lot away from stock. There are a lot of them laying in back yards with bad motors and can be had pretty cheap.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Hello,

the project sounds interesting .... I'm curious what you make of it.
I'll look after that repeatedly.

greetings

Cool, great info, thanks! anim-cheers1

I think to start the build, I'll just mount the 19" to the GL1000 front. Was thinking about making an extension for the top of the fork tubes to raise it??

As for the rear, I am planning on longer shocks.
Have though about tilting the engine back a few degrees like Honda did with the 1200. I think that would help with the U joint angle.
Maybe adjust the carb float levels to handle it?

Hoping to get at least 3-4" in height.

Frame took a good crunch from the crash bar mount.

Maybe chopping out a section anyway if I tilt the engine, so we'll see.
Might just fill it in.

I had already cut the belt off, and looks like no damage internally.

The timing pulley is bent, and I'll pull the camshaft to check it, but if that's all the engine damage, dancr

Good news! Shaft is nice and straight. Won't have to tear into the engine any further at this point.

Should have it runnin' in the next day or so. :crosso :crosso :crosso

I'll be pulling the engine and stripping it down to the frame eventually, but I always like to hear them run first. :IDTS:

Ok, like usual, I wrenched on this one for the rest of the day instead of doing real work.

She's running (barely) even on the 2yr old gas! dancr

Now the REAL FUN begins.

3" fork extensions...

I'll be powder coating them black, so that will hide the chatter from the custom-made concave cutter (aka: ground down drill bit end I've used before).

Counter bore, drill for the threads, drill for the through hole, tap, and slot.
Now we have a custom extension coupling, wog style.

This bike will have fork gators, maybe even add them under the extensions.

Oh yeah, I guess I should make one for the other side. lolol
