I hear you and feel your pain. Double whammy being out here on the west coast rock, not a lot of choice. Not parting with my 1200 either. Figure if I amortize the bike over 5 years it's not too bad and since I'm not selling, will get a better amortization as the years go by.

I sent an email to Frank's Forks to inquire as to replacement for the 1200. Have a bit of a good scuff on the left front fork upper tube:

The right is quite a bit different:

My friend just traded in his 2015 HD Street Glide even after spending some additional $10K on it for a 2018 Heritage Classic Bagger with the new 114 in it; however, he just dropped another $9K on it to upgrade the engine and customize it a bit.

I don't know about yourself, but I have no issue getting on my 1200 and taking a 5200 Km trip.

The tentatively planned Paris meet coincides with my sister's b'day in June. Wanted to ride across Canada with the Mrs anyway.

Keep at her. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.

The front brake lever that came with my MC was bent so I ordered a new set and decided to try and see if I could make the CBR clutch lever work on the GL so I’d have a matched set on the bike.
They’re quite different:

After some hack sawing and filing I ended up with something that fits and works, but isn’t exactly ‘perfect’.

It’s much longer than the stock clutch lever, not sure how I feel about it, but I accomplished what I set out to do confused22 Might end up just powdercoating the stock lever black.

I can't tell from the picture, but do the early GL's have an integrated left hand controls/clutch perch? They are separate on my bike so it was easy to just use the CBR perch.

Yes, it’s all one piece. I could always look at picking up a set of later controls for the left hand side if it gets to that point...but I did just rebuild all the internals on these ones a year ago

I guess the other option would be to actually cut the original perch off of the controls and then use a CBR perch, then maybe some adjustable shorty levers.

Hard to believe that with my love of cutting things the idea of chopping the perch off the control hadn't even occurred to me! That's a much better idea, given I can pick up a basic Honda clutch perch for next to nothing. Thanks! anim-cheers1

I am going to drill my rear rotor to match the look of the front, so to prepare I duplicated the RC51 front rotor hole pattern into CAD and then scaled it to fit the diameter of the rear rotor

Printed it full size and used a hole punch then filled in the holes with a black marker to set the pattern

I just need to pick up some cutting fluid and then I can knock this out.

I just used regular motor oil when I drilled mine and had no problems. Did all three rotors and only sharpened the bit once. I center punched the pattern; I'm not sure the sharpie will hold up. My 2 cents...

The sharpie was just to get the hole pattern laid out, I will be centre punching as well. I hadn't heard of using motor oil as a cutting fluid...I might just give that a shot.

What started as ‘shorten a few wires in the front’ has turned into ‘completely redo the wiring loom and all the connectors’. I really want to avoid the mass of wires and connectors and splices that can quickly come on with adding after market parts, so I’ve decided to completely rework the harness to clean everything up with proper connectors. I’ve ordered a huge variety of different pin connectors (2.8, 4.8 and 6.3mm) along with lots of shrink tube and woven nylon sheathing. I’ve got the time, so every connection is getting completely reworked...shortened, wrapped, heat shrinks and new soldered connections. I want it all hidden neatly under the false tank instead of in the headlight shell.

Anything else I should look into while I’m at it? I’ve read about by-passing the reserve lighting uniting, swapping out the resistor / rectifier with a CBR600 unit, etc. suggestions or ideas of what to tackle while I’m at it?

A fellow over on the CX500-650 turbo forum rebuilt his CX500T and used Tesa Black High Heat Wire Loom Harness Tape on his wiring harness. It's abrasion resistant and designed for this application.

Princess Auto has the Pro Point wire crimper kit on sale right now.

Cheers

Hasn’t been a lot of progress on the bike in the last couple months, but I’m startong to get back into. The forks are out getting the seals, bushings, and race tech springs installed and I have a box of stuff heading off to the powdercoaters on Monday. Final assembly of the front end can happen once I get that all back in a week or so, very excited for that!

I also started working on the front turn signal mounts. I had purchased some 49mm clamps that I sanding out to 50mm and then bolted the signal up. Should do the trick and look good once all the other parts are black

Any suggestions how to remove the white acewell logo on the speedo without damaging the black finish?

List of things left to do:
Spoke up and true the new wheels (waiting for a stand to arrive)
Purchase and mount tires
Purchase stainless braided front brake lines
Figure out the front fender and mounts
Finish all the wiring
Figure out the speedo pickup and tach
Get the clearcoat on the seat cowl fixed
Possibly replace the radiator with a new aluminum unit from ebay.

Now that the weather up here is starting to warm up I’m re-motivated to get this all done and on the road for spring

I was wondering where you got off to.

Is the logo a sticker or paint? Heat gun/hair dryer for sticker, but if its paint I think I'd take a small pinpoint brush and carefully paint it black.

Or a Sharpie... I think Wog likes those 'paint stick' markers...
