My wife and daughter are out of town for the weekend, which means I was free to convert the kitchen into a wheel building station

All did not go as planned tho...after threading the spokes into the front Cognito hub I realized it was only a 36 hole! confused22 I double checked my order and I definitely ordered a 40 hole hub. So now I have to get in contact with Cognito Moto and see what the next steps are. I had already installed a brand new spacer, bearings and seals so I’m not sure where that will leave me. It’s a bit of a bummer as I’ve had the hub since October and never thought to check that it was correct. Hopefully they can fix the mistake quickly.

In better news, the rear wheel went together great and I’m extremely happy with how it looks:

We also got both the wheels for my buddies CX500 laced and trued.

I’m off to Mexico at the end of the week for a vacay with the wife, so with any luck by the time I get back the replacement hub will be here.

Front hub is on its way back to Cognito Moto in Virginia and after it arrives they are shipping me a replacement with the correct number of holes. Will probably take a couple weeks to turn that around. Got the holes all drilled in the rear disc (same pattern as the RC51 fronts). Regular metal bits were just not working, ordered in some cobalt bits and cutting oil and it went through them like butter.

I’ve been chasing a small radiator leak ever since I put the bike back together the first time so I’m taking a chance on an aftermarket aluminum one.

Does anyone have any experience with these ones and if so what is the verdict?

I believe 5speed in Nova Scotia used an aluminum rad on one of his projects. Good price with shipping from down under considering the exchange. Had a new core installed in the rad on my '85 LTD, approximately $350.00 CDN done locally.

Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Thanks for the link. Seems like if I mock it up on the original and do a little trimming and adjusting I should be OK mounting it. I have Dyna coils so I'll have to see how they fit in with the filler tube, unless the manufacturer has adjusted the design a bit. I could also always get it cut and re-welded at the correct angle I suppose.

The front hub is supposed to be shipped out this week so I can hopefully get the front wheel built soon and then get some tires ordered. The biggest task left after that is the wiring. I bought a few different kits with pretty much every type of oem block connector, heat shrink, etc so I can get everything shortened and tucked away properly. My plan is no splices and no aftermarket connectors and everything soldered and heat shrinked. I want everything to plug in like it came from the factory like this. The weather is finally warming up and they have started sweeping the streets so I'm getting antsy to get this wrapped up so I can ride!

there is a fair amount of room around the coils..even if you had to fab up a new bracket.

Unlike the last thing I ordered that was sent out of China and took 3 months to arrive, my new rad is here after only 6 days. Looks exactly like the pictures 5speed posted, so they definitely haven't changed the design at all. Put it roughly into place and looks like I will need to make some minor modifications to get it bolted up, but nothing too major.
